I feel like I can't and won't get better

I have my good days and my bad days.. most of the time I just want to lay in bed.. I have set some short and long term goals  to accomplish for me and my children but then  when I think about doing it alone I just break down and cry.. just thinking about when and how I'm going to accomplish this gets me upset.. I just want to wake up and this be all over.. to feel like myself again.. feel like I'm having trouble finding the real me.. everyone I talk to says medication this medication that.. but I don't want it I want to fight this on my own.. I like to be fully aware of all of my senses I don't like the thought of being forgetful or nonchalant about certain situations I want to remember and know what's going on at all times.. anyone have any advice to help me during this depressing time that's not on medicine..

    Depression does get better.

Its now important to find ways to cope with it until it does get better.

Your doctor can refer you to counselling services.

WRT Antidepressants I completely understand your hesitance. What I would say is I have seen people come in to GP utterly miserable - prescribed sertraline - come back for a review in a month and they’re beaming. They do work.

No-one wants to be on meds but they do help alot of people. Sometimes you just have to admit you need temporary help to get through the hardest times & give you the boost you need. Most AD do not alter your personality they are there to restore a chemical imbalance that is all. You should speak to your doctor they will be able to guide you in what's best for you x

Jeannisha sorry that you are having so much trouble with depression. I agree with the others that have replied depression may go away but in my experience it may come to stay a very long time also. Meds have bummed me out of depression and made me feel better and combined with counseling to get to the root of my problems which took a while...I have to recommend considering it. Please keep us posted. We care!! Diane

    Dear Jeannisha,

I'm so sorry to read how you feel in your post but I'm so grateful you have good hearted people giving you good advice and guidence.

I can relate to everything you wrote and I feel and experience the lot. What amazes me is that our symptoms are so often the same. I got out of bed at 4.00pm yesterday and still here after noon today. It's so seedy and I hate myself so much. What I want to say like the others is seriously consider antidepressants and therapy as it's effects may not be as bad as you think and you may feel a whole lot better. Hopefully you have the best GP you can find and I suggest anything the doctor writes a scrip for you seriously investigate what it is and how it works.

There are so many drugs out there with different names that are almost the same and you don't want to repeat something you have tried.

Best of Australian luck to you and keep asking questions

    Hi.

I have been taking herbal supplements from an Ayurvedic practitioner since April of 2017 will amazing results. I had a follow-up appointment earlier today and he was truely pleased with my results and congratulated me on the hard work to reach this point. It has involved a lot of hard work and lifestyle changes;but SO worth it.

I avoid dairy, caffiene, processed meats, refined sugars and alcohol. I eat mostly fresh fruits ,vegetables ,chicken and rice. I eat small amounts of red meats and fish.I also eat almonds, cashews and pistachio nuts for snacks.

I had previously been taking various antidepressants prescribed by my GP for about 15 years. I could not stand the numbness to everything while taking them.

    This has worked for me!

It might be worth a try !

Good luck and let me know how it goes if you give it a try!

    Hope you feel better soon!

    Virtual hugs

I do recommend that you do some research about herbal supplements as some people do have either allergies or sensitivities to some of them .

Also ,it is wise to fine a practitioner who has a good reputation  and has been around for awhile.

Give it a try ! Nothing ventured, nothing gained !

Best wishes, hope you had a good day!

Hi jeannisha - sorry to read of your situation. You don't want the meds, but would you consider counselling? It can be a safe place to vent in a controlled environment with a professional to guide things. It's also a space where you can leave the anxiety while you face the world.

I have been severely depressed twice, to the point of losing a lot of weight and could not exist the way I was at that time.   Reluctantly I took Citalopram, not good for a month or so then it was a gradual process to recovery and gaining weight and seeing the flowers and wildlife in a  glad to be alive attitude.   I am 70 now and have been off them for 4 years, still get my down days but glad to be here still.  I have a lovely family and granddaughters, shortly to become a great grandmother.   Why don,t you give them a try, it helped me get on the ladder to feeling better.  Children know when you are feeling down and it does affect them, later on in their life they told me how it made them feel at the time and I am very very sorry.

I feel you because I used to have a depressed time just like you. I took medication for a while  ,yes I feel better that time. But when I don't take medicine, I'll be back in the circle of depression. So, I decided to fight with myself try not to attach to sadness or loneliness, go outside, do exercise. Stuff like that. I know it's hard, but as long as you can do it, you'll be better.
