As good as medication is, it is not the answer for everyone....whilst you would hope that it would be effective ( and I needed 150mg of sertraline when I was first diagnosed, for me 50mg did nothing, 100mg very little but 150mg did work ) for most people the solution is a combination of medication and psychotherapy. Let me add that we are all different, with very diff. personalities....I for one was referred to a psychotherapist who whilst very well qualified and liked by his peers, I personally did not get on well with. In fact I had to stop seeing him as he was making me feel worse not better !! ( I stuck it out for a good few months, but relationships were strained !)....there are other people out there too...you may just need a diff. sort of therapy or a different person. There are some really good intereventions out there, but not very easy getting a place on the really good courses. I would see you dr about maybe increasing to 150mg of sertraline, and if you feel like progress with the counsellor you have is not great, as your psych / GP if there is a different course / person you could see instead. I wuld up the dise before even condiering sitching if you are tolerating the side effects ok.

Hi holly hope you don't mind me asking a few questions I am on 100mg sertraline have been for 2 weeks I don't really think I had terrible side effects but saw an improvement in my depression and anxiety however the intrusive thoughts seem to be there a lot do you think this medication is working or does it take more time, how do you feel on your dose ? X

I did great on 150mg. but it took me to go onto 150mg to start to benefit from this medication. I had only slight improvement at 100mg.
I think its fair to say you could stick 3/4 weeks out on your current dose to see how you do, then if no change I would consider going up to 150mg. many GPs will not prescibe this dose ( most only comfortable going up to 100mg ), but a psych will have no issues. Side effects are pretty much the same at all doses, it's just when you change dose you notice them for a few weeks. hard to say what improvement on you thoughts would be, best thing is to ask to try it.

Hi Holly,
Did you have bad side effects going from 100mg to 150mg? I was on 50mg for two weeks and now have been on 75mg for two weeks. Last time I was on Zoloft it took 100mg. I'm so afraid to move up to 100mg right now because of side effects. I feel so much better than a month ago, but the anxiety still comes and goes throughout the day. I feel that if I up the dose I will be back to normal, but can't stand the thought of side effects right now!

hey all, just thought i would let u know that i have been reading up about something interesting called inositol, which is supposed to be very good for many people regarding negative/intrusive thoughts, anxiety and also sleep problems
it's natural, most likely will get no side effects (or if so, mild ones), and you don't need a prescription for it. you can take it along with your current med such as sertraline
there have been clinical trials with it, and it proved effective (it is not just some fake/placebo)
if you want to give it a go, get yourself a bag of the powder (or pills if you prefer), get around a 250g or 500g bag of the powder, and take anywhere between 3-10 grams a day (you could start on 3 or 4 grams, and then increase if you feel the need. it's not dangerous or anything, you could go to 20 grams a day if u wanted).
you can read up more about it on the internet if you wish, but from what i can see, it has got some very positive reviews and results from depression and anxiety sufferers out there
