OMG this transition is truly horrific. In the last 3 days I've had dizziness, painful joints/teeth, headaches, nausea, crying for no reason, terrible tiredness (like the constant nodding off kind) and to top it all off I'm now on antibiotics for a bladder infection. My "sample" contained blood and protein and is being sent for analysis so now I'm paranoid and panicking that I have fatal kidney disease or cancer. I feel like I'm dying of some terrible illness like some of you ladies. No one seems to understand how truly ill you feel and yes, there are new symptoms every day. When will it end...

    Hi Kim,

You are not alone. I feel the same way. Some days are worse than others. On Saturday, out of the blue, after having a pretty good day, I felt like I was going to pass out. Weak, shortness of breath, upset stomach... Then it just went away after 3 hours. Yesterday I was just sitting around watching TV all day. No symptoms per se, just no energy. This morning I woke up feeling ill and uneasy. It lasted for about 3 hours. Now I feel okay again.

I'm turning 48 next month and my peri started last October - one week before my 47th birthday. I can honestly say that there hasn't been one day since then when I felt 'normal'. Some days are so bad that I feel depressed, deflated. Then there are days when I feel okay - before it hits me again. It's a physical and emotional rollercoaster.

Please know that you are not alone. We are all here for you!

    Take good care,

    Dana

Kim, I am totally feeling the same way and wake up each day in disbelief at how many random symptoms are taking place! It is unbelievable how bad this can make us feel! Melatonin helps me most nights to sleep but here i am at 4:30 am wide awake with shooting pains all over and anxiety. If its not one thing its another. x

      Hi Beth,

Epsom Salt baths help so much during this time. My naturopath said to focus on 2.5 liters of water per day, green smoothies, slippery elm to keep regular and more fruits and veggies in general. She mixed a certain liquid herbal prescription to help with peri symptoms and prescribed a specific magnesium powder to help with anxiety. She also said to take Selenium for my thyroid (early hashimotos) symptoms accorfing to my bloodwork. I hope to find some relief from the herbs soon. I met her via telehealth video so happy to send her name if anyone needs it. x

      Salesman,

Thx for the message and sorry you are in similar boat!. I am currently laying on a heat pad as Im having chest and rib pain thinking maybe radiating from my back, who knows these days where the pain will be next! I am so sad too, this is so awful and scary. I booked a visit to chiro for next week hoping that may help. My symptoms are always worse a week before period too. Oh the joys... x

wow Shelley i have thyroid issues as well, my Dr was treating me for hypothyroidism and it made me feel worse, but my numbers went down. i was so confused as to why i didnt feel better. i wondered if it was Hasimotos but now realize its probably meno related. this post has cleared some questions for me

      thank you

      Hi Beth,

I am happy to say my naturopath has helped in just a couple of weeks. She has me taking a magnesium powder daily and another liquid herb called Vitex Agnus Castus (aka Chaste tree). It tastes awful but worth it so far. She also has me on more green smoothies and making sure to eat more veggies, fruits and fiber. I think this stage of life we forget to take care of our diets bc we are so busy with kids and responsibilities. Also my rib pain is settling a lot and was due to my back and thoracic area! My chiro has adjusted and pain is easing. Hope this info helps any of you with similar pain! x

      Hi Corinne,

I am still working to figure out my thyroid situation. I have recently learned that gluten has to be eliminated. I have been on basically vegan diet. It is hard to tell if the thyroid is causing problems or menopause. Hope you find some relief, I have heard the meds the drs prescribe dont always help. x
