To all if you that posted good luck thank you - I am too tired to reply individually this morning but wanted to say your messages were hugely comforting.

To all the pre hippies it will be hard to find anyone more terrified than me in

The early stages, but I can promise you the thought and the wait is FAR worse than the procedure. It was fine every step of the way. Even waking up in recovery listening to Christmas songs on the radio - I actually felt like singing and was so relieved. I have no

Not sure what you meant by pain relief, you will most proberbly be given morphine for a couple of days, and this morning they will get you out of bed, when I had my op 2 weeks ago they had me out of bed the same night, just sleep when you feel like it but well done xx

They stopped the morphine already. I was wondering if that is a good idea just before getting out if bed ? I didn't have my op until 5pm in the end so was just resting until now x

I am surprised that they have stopped the morphine so soon, when the hospital stopped my morphine they put put me on cocodomol which I still take as and when

The morphine can make you a little unsteady. When I've been on morphine I've not been allowed out of bed.

Well done Rose, glad it is over.  If you have pain ask for pain control.  I'm sure they will give you some if you need it.

Darling Rose - so are you, you start yelling blue blod---- murder, if you are in any pain, remember the dignity thing, it doesn't exist.

I found that they were positively pushing pain killers at us.  Wrightington seems to have a policy that the patients really should not be in any pain.

That is a very good policy, there is no extra points for being a hero is there!

I had the blue morphine too - and a sweet oral morphine liquid, I think that  was a faster acting version?

Me too - for the first hip op in January they were offering me all pain meds going and I could choose what I did and didnt want. Strangely for the second one at the same hospital they were offering paracetemol and codeine after the first 12 hours which really didnt help the pain. After asking for something stronger I was offered some liquid morphine but that tends to make me feel sick and lowers my blood pressure a lot. So in the end I had to insist they check my notes as the doctor had written up Naproxen and Tramadol for pain. I only took them for a short time but they really helped the pain and I was able to move more easily.

Dont know if this a new policy or they are trying to save money lol!
