I first got the abscess when i was 20 which is 4 years ago now, i didnt even know what it was, all i knew was that there was this thing growing bigger and bigger and it was painful. I told my mum and she laughed and she told me what it was she had, had the same thing at the same age as me. Well what can i say i went to my doctors and she looked at it and said i would have to go into hospital. she phoned the hospital to confirm it was alright for me to come in and my doctor gave me a letter to go straight through to A&E so i didnt have to wait. It was very painful i couldn't walk or sit down, i couldnt sleep at night because of the sharp twinges i was getting. Anyway they put me in a hospital bed and got a gynaecologist to come and have a look and the surgeon, they said i would need a drainage operation. They did the operation i woke up and i was in a lot of pain they had to give me pain killers to relieve it. then before i was due to go home they said right were gonna take the gauze out it was painful because the hole they pull it out of is very small. They sent me home with antibiotics and i had to go for a checkup a week later at my doctors - it stayed away for 8 months.I ts been 4 years now and im still suffereing with this abscess i have been on different antibiotics, i had that draining operation and i keep going in and out of hospital but it keeps popping before they get me into theatre to do the marsulpalization operation. Im writing this now with an abscess growing again and knowing that the bruising feeling will soon be a big lump with sharp pains and i wont be able to sit down and im gonna have to go the hospital again. The stress of this thing reoccuring time after time is very stressing and upsetting also frustrating but you have to keep on going and hoping that one day it will get sorted. i hope that anyone else who has had the same problem as me gets it sorted cause i know how it feels.

I have gone through the same as you (4 times), and I understand the pain you have been through. I had it lanced 3 times, each time under general and over night stays in hospital. the first time it happened i saw my doctor(5 days into it) he gave me anti-bios, but that night i took myself to A&E because the pain was unbearable. I was kept in overnight and had it lanced. tThe A&E doctor told me that i had to have it lanced because it had got too big for the anti-bios to work and there was a chance that it could poison my blood stream.

I was ok for 4 Years, then it flared up again twice in the space of 6 months i had it lanced two more times. Shortly after this a coversation with a stranger (happened to be a Nurse) revealed to me that BC's have a habit of appearing every four years and that if, it flared up again i should insist on having it cut out by the root that is the only way i would get rid of it for good. it flared up one more time, 3 months after the last lancing, and this time i requested it to be cut out by the root, it was done in five minutes in a walk in clinic at Guy's hospital, (the same hospital That had lanced it all those other times) it was not painful having it cut out by the root, the only painful bit was the local injection to numb the area a couple of seconds of pain, but compaired to the years of pain caused by the BC it was well worth it. I have not had the BC appear since (eight years since i had it cut out by the root).

I do hope you sorted out your BC problem, if you or anyone else you know have this problem again discuss having it cut out by the root

    with your Doctor.

    :D

Glad to have read your message and realise that perhaps this is not something we have to live with for years and years. I am certainly going to enquire about this operation to cut out at the root. It is just so bad when BC rears its ugly head! I have had 7 over a 12 year period and I thought that was bad - but reading these notes I see that there are a lot of people worse off! I was at the doctors 2 days ago and got a rather sarcastic reply of its only as common as tonsilitis! I'd like to see the doctor (a male I might add) with one of these and see how well he would cope!

I really thought I was the only one with this problems but it seems Iam not alone. I have sufffered from this cyist for about maybe 2 years not had the operation back in 1994 and it has occured again. About to have operation again but I am scared it will not work and may come back.

I has got the point now where i feel to cut it slice it myself as I am seriously depressed cant bear the feel of it the look of etc especially when it comes to sex and it is there. it is just hidious.

I glad to read your message and to learn I am not the only one with this horrible cyist.
