I first started having pain and a lump under my knee when i was 8 yrs old but was told it was growing pains, therefore i continued with my routine of dance practice 6times a week. it was only in 2003 after yrs of pain that a doctor finally diagnosed osgood schlatters disease and refered me to hospital. i have received an appointment 4 the yr 2008 as apparantly my ailment is not dehabilitating. wel as the mother of 2 young children i can assure you it is. i can no longer take my children up and down the stairs 2 bed. i have 2 rely on a family member to do that as i can no longer bear weight on my knees. i can not squat or kneel and if i attempt it am left in considerable pain and my leg swells and becomes briused. its about time doctors took this condition seriously!

Reading this lady's story was like reading my own - I was diagnosed with OSD at 11 and wore a back splint on my whole leg for about 2 months , but it was a couple of years before I could bend my leg properly .I also had ultrasound therapy . It didn't stop me doing anything in my youth , but boy , now I'm in my late thirties my knees are destroyed - I can't kneel at all and walking up and down stairs is excrutiating - like gravel . Don't tell me that there isn't a link ! Any parents out there take your kids aches and pains seriously . I was an active kid , not excessively sporty . To the young footballer - don't give up hope , I knew a player who had the condition and it never stopped him , but your knees won't thank you when you are older !:?

My best advice that I can give you from my expirience is to take ibrufen and use ice cubes on the knee area for around 15/20mins when it begins to hurt. I was unable to play football for my team for up to 6 months. I now realize that if i hadnt have used ice then it would have taken much longer! Once i used the ice i then stretched my leg muscles so that i could still have good movement without it feeling very stiff. I did not entirely stop sports. I still carried on doing calmer activities such as gentle swimming to keep fit.

i definalty agree that doctors should know more about this condition and im glad im not the only one hat thinks that! i was diagnosed with it nearly 5yrs ago and have gone down so many different path ways to ease the pain! ive recently had key hole surgery in which i had little cameras put into my knees to see what is wrong! it turns out that i have very little or no cartalidge!

however now the pain is worse and all the doctors seem to do is just give me a different set of tablets and tell me to come back in 2 yrs! its so annoying!
