I get the same lethargy like symptoms on an off around 20% over the year

Hi

For the last years from what I can remember I've always had something come and go, and I've never been able to put my finger on what it is and how it affects me, as it isn't debilitating enough to affect my mood or my work enough to feel like an issue. However it does have an affect and sometimes can be worse than other times so feel now I need to sort what it is out! I've put the symptoms below:

  • Needing to clear my throat often (feels phlegmy at back of throat but don't tend to see it)
  • Mild headache, can work out it's coming from the back left/right side
  • Worst in mornings, often find it hard to wake up as feel so tired
  • Often sleep is affected more than normal negatively (wake up a few times and more noticeably - but it isn't too much difference to normal as sleep isn't great.
  • Slight headache around eyes
  • When I get up symptoms ease after a shower, hot drink and food however the symptoms still feel quite 'dulling' and still cause a sense of lethargy more than usual
  • This can last either for a day or over 3-5 days. It affects probably between 60-90 days of the year
  • It seems random how it comes on - the only pattern I could link it potentially to is to exercise. If i exercise too strenuously it can cause me to feel fatigued not just physically, but mentally too with symptoms of above, so I tend to be cautious about building up forms of exercise now to ensure i don't potentially antagonise this? If I workout in a way my body isn't used to and I feel achey the next day, often this means I get the dull lethargy pain which I put to feeling DOMS more than some others?
  • Unlikely linked to diet, eaten very healthy diet recently but pattern remains regular in that it comes on at random times
  • Had a doctor do blood tests a couple of years ago but inconclusive results. Things like thyroid were checked. Vit D had slight deficiency but very minor and was seen to be common for where I live in the UK, and the tablets didn't change anything. Since then haven't really looked into, but with the slower pace of life at the moment, thinking about it more again!
  • Had my tonsils removed a few years ago just as a fyi, but had the same issues before tonsils. It just helped alleviate some of the really bad tonsilitis i often got. Maybe throat related with the phlegm stuff i was thinking?
  • Sometimes throat can feel a bit sore, but less likely for this to be a symptom.
  • The way it affects me is that i don't have the same amount of energy on these days as i usually do. Think 7 on a normal day as no one ever feels perfect, but between 4-6 depending on severity when i display these symptoms. Which can make me feel more withdrawn on those days.
  • Don't believe it's stress or anxiety based as i've seen no link nor have ever exhibited underlying issues there.

Tried to be as detailed as possible! Likely will go to see dr again but it's very hard getting appts due to covid atm.

Thanks in advance!

could be vitamin d. you say you had a mild deficiency. do you know the actual value was? usually doctors have way too low a range and give out way too low a dose supplements for vitamin d. I'm currently taking 9000iu a day to correct my deficiency (32nmol/l)

I also have the throat clearing problem. not sure whether that's to do with the vitamin d though. maybe a food allergy or low hcl in the stomach as it often happens to me after eating, then calms down again after an hour or so.

have you had your vitamin b12, folate and iron panel levels checked as well as all of them can cause fatigue and are common deficiencies. I recommend thriva tests if you can't get to doctors.
