I had a hypomanic episode after I was diagnosed with ME ...

I had a hypomanic episode after I was diagnosed with ME and put on Prozac. I got an allergic reaction and so was taken off prozac, then returned to it at my high dose instead of tapering it off then back on. This precipitated the mental illness, which lasted a few weeks. Several years later, when I still had ME, was going through a traumatic divorce, and being given chemotherapy for breast cancer, I found it difficult to sleep, which is a typical ME syptom. I incresed my dose of another antidepressant, amytriptilene, whch had been precribed by a consultant neurologist to help me sleep, and improve my nerve impulses. He confirmed the diagnosis of ME, as have several other consultants.I got hypomania again, and the psychiatrist has diagnosed me as being bipolar, although I am not on any medication. I am avoiding all antidepressants. The consultant will not acknowledge that I have ME, although I am prepared to conceed that I might have both conditions. I haven't had another hypomanic episode for 4y, and have not been depressed in that time. I am however very angry at not being believed, and the psychiatrist, who admits he knows nothing about ME, implying that "I need some level of symptoms in order to continue to recieve benefits". Pripr to getting ME I worked full time as a Science teacher, and was a lot better off than I am now. Has anyone got any advice/similar stories?
