I had copd for 8 years now diagnosed as diabetic

They said I had copd for 10 years now diagnosed as diabetic, that however was good news as, as soon as I took the metformin my lung function improved by loads.  My spirometry tests in the past told me I had the lungs of a 129 year old I could not walk more than a few steps without stopping I was in a bad place.  Now after a week the difference is miraculous, although due to inactivity I am not quite normal but I can breathe.  I am fed up I was not tested for diabetes earlier.  So much for doctors if I was a car I would have more diagnostic tests.

Hi Sue are you saying you were misdiagnosed with COPD, that COPD was mistaken for diabetes?  Or do you still have COPD ?

Glad you are breathing easier now.

Of course lengthy periods of inactivity will have a detrimental affect to the point when active breathlessness can be experienced, that happens whether you have COPD or not.

Patient UK has a diabetes forum also I believe, just type diabetes into the discussion search box left.

That I dont know yet as like you say periods of inactivity do have an effect also fatigue and breathlessness go sort of hand in hand - I suppose only time will tell.  I am so hoping copd is completely gone

A CT scan can determine a diagnosis of COPD

No point in taking medication for COPD if you don't have it.  Did the doctor say you now don't have COPD?

COPD doesn't go away but it can stabilise for sure.

I hope you're feeling better and I'm not laughing at  you, I promise!  But I always find these statements by doctors etc about lung age quite amusing:  how many 129 year old's lungs have they seen????   It's a totally useless thing to say in my opinion, because it doesn't help you manage your condition one iota and can lead to despair in some patients.

What medication do you have for your COPD and do you do the lung rehab exercises regularly?   The latter make a HUGE difference

i know what a ridiculous thing to say but i have regressed three years according to the golden rule i am now thinking of going to lung rehab now that i have got them back - doctors of despair.  on a but more lighter side i had manic depression and was sectioned and forced to take their terrible pshycotic drugs i couldnt say no forced to take them against my will now when i was a teenager i would never do drugs say no to drugs unless your sectioned - the manic phase was fun for me but not everyone else.  good luck to you jude
