The general recommendation is for IM injection, I don't think which muscle makes a huge difference, though the deltoid is preferred. The vaccine can also be given as a low dose intra-dermal injection. The only study I found using the subcutaneous also used the low dose but it was generally considered the least effective site. The fact that you get 3 doses, even if it goes into SC tissue, shouldn't render it ineffective, but some people are poor responder's anyway. You could ask for a test after you've finished the course, some places offer these as a routine.
