I had my first abcess on my coxix when I was 15 yrs old....

I had my first abcess on my coxix when I was 15 yrs old. I had a disrict nurse come in on a daily basis to pack it with gause. Since then I have had more than ten operation to remove these abcesses. At one time I thought I had breast cancer, because I had abcesses under both arms and they were black. I had them both removed and was off work for 5 months, because again they were left open and were packed with gause by the district nurse. I am 35 now and still having the abcesses under both arms, but have them on going in my groin for over ten years. They have been cut out and lanced in the same place but still keep reoccuring. I am glad to find out I'm not the only person in the world suffering from this. The pain is undiscribable at times and I wouldn't wish this condition on anyone. I am currently off work with one in my groin and in my chest. I haven't been diagnosed with Hidradenitis Suppurativa but it sound like the condition I have. The only thing I can do is wash with antibactirial soaps, and use the fudicin cream given by my GP. I would like to hear from anyone else that suffers from this, I know what your going through and it's not pleasant.

Best Wishes

Karen Henry

    HI KAREN

I READ YOUR COMMENT AND BELIEVE YOU HAVE HS. MY FIRST LESION OCCURRED WHEN I WAS 19 AND THAT WAS ALMOST 18 YEARS AGO. I HAD DOCTORS SLICE AND DRAIN THE LESIONS IN THE EARLY YEARS BECAUSE THEY DIDN'T UNDERSTAND THE CONDITION, EVEN TODAY SOME HAVE NEVER HEARD OF HIDRADENTITIS. IT WAS ALMOST 6 YEARS BEFORE I EVEN GOT A DIAGNOSIS AND A FURTHER THREE BEFORE ANYONE DID ANYTHING TO HELP ME. IN THE PAST 5 YEARS I HAVE HAD FOUR MAJOR OPS TO HELP RELIEVE THE SYMPTOMS BUT I'M ALWAYS AWARE THAT EVEN SURGERY ISN'T A PERMANENT CURE.

ONE THING THAT HAS HELPED ME, LIKE YOU IS FINDING OUT I'M NOT ALONE AND HOPEFULLY TOGETHER WE WILL ONE DAY FIND A CURE. IF YOU WANT TO EMAIL ME PLEASE DO.

ALL THE BEST AND GOOD WISHES CHRISTINE

Hi, I am a 30 y/o male with hydrodenitis under my left arm, I first had an occurance a few months ago, thought it was just a boil, it started to drain, then went away..but not for long about a couple weeks after the first one I noticed 2 more small red bumps under my arm and within a day or two they were swollen and even more painful. Again they drained and dissappeared. I finally thought it was over. I was wrong..about a month after that, the worst of them all came back to haunt me, now I have two very large abscesses under my are, extremely painful, and only one is draining. I do hot compresses every so many hours and try to drain it on my own..this is extremely painful to the point where I can't even rest my arm down to my side, I have to hold it up. I have gone to two different drs. only for them to give me different prescriptions, which honestly I don't think are working. If anyone is finding a more suitable treatment that is working for them, please let me know...good luck to us all!

I have just had emergency surgery for this been to doctor many times being given creams then one gave me anti biotics then a few days ago i experienced a very sore leision in the groin it was so painful i went to A&E. I was admitted to the surgical unit and was given a general aneathetic and draining has taken place and now i'm waiting for the district nurse to come and repack it and i am off work for two weeks. a nurse asked me at the hospital how long i had Hidradenitis I was aghast i was embaressed and was even told i was dirty at one time it would have been nice to have had information before it got to this and then i wouldn't have felt like I was causing the problem having all the symptoms and treatments for over ten years. I am hoping to have it diagnosed and then take action to help myself better now i have an understanding of what it is. I have successfully managed ulcerative colitus to the point that i need no drugs and hold down a good job and my consultant has eventually agreed that diet and exercise has been the answer rather than drug therapy. I understand there is no known cure as it is with the colitus and am now determined to reduce the symtoms to an easy manageable stage so i can continue a full and happy life. Thank you for your post I know I am not alone and that I can move forward to tackle the GP and work towards a more productive lifestyle again.
