I had my period for 8 months

So, I've always had an irregular period. I only get it 1, maybe 2 times a year. Last year I started with some light spotting which slowly got heavier until I had a VERY heavy flow for 8 months straight and had to birth a huge chunk of my lining the size of my hand. I was screaming in pain with every contraction. After that I went onto Depo to stop the period because I didn't want to go through that pain again. 3 months later I didn't go for my second one because I want children and I heard Depo can take up to 10 months to get out of your system. A month later I started getting very slight bleeding. Like if you were to put one drop of food colouring in a bath of water. It started getting heavier each week and now on week 5 it's not too heavy but there's clots. Public health care is absolute trash in my country and I cannot afford private so I don't know what to do. Could this be something serious that'll cause me to become infertile?

I'm in South Africa. Never been for a pap smear because I don't trust doctors here. I was in the hospital when I birthed a chunk and was told to go home because there's nothing wrong with me. I'm 22 this year.

It could be anything an std miscarriage infection hormonal. I would see an obgyn
Just find one your comfortable with. It took me 3 different ones to find one i could confine in.

I'm not currently trying to become pregnant, my boyfriend is long distance. I wanted to in the future. I'm not sexually active and haven't been for a very long time. I don't know if I'm comfortable with lucky packet doctors scratching in my lady bits.

Hopefully I don't end up anemic. Thank you so much for the advice, Erika. I appreciate it a ton!

Sadly the ER's do not seem to know what to do about menstrual bleeding. If its not trauma they really prefer you to see a ob/gyn. Have you tried ob/gyn? Ive never had bleeding like this until my older years but I do wish you the best of luck.
