6 weeks post op after mortons neuroma surgery and the foot feels a thousand times worse than pre op. It is stiff and tight and feels like something is pressing down hard across the top of my foot. I also have shooting nerve pain through the ball of the foot when I walk. I have been going for extensive physiotherapy And the therapist says it will get better but it takes time. I am starting to feel despondent. Has anyone else been through this? I would love to hear of your experiences. I'd like to hear from people who've experienced it. Will this get better?

, I am 4 weeks post op, i am experiencing some of the same thing you are with the surgery, I only had one neuroma removed. However mine is from the last 2 toes being numb, I do at times have shock through my foot. But it has only been a short time, I really think it takes time for healing to take place, such a small area with tendons nerves, bone. My Aunt had 2 on each feet done at the same time, she has no regret, shoe fit a little tighter, cant walk barefeet, I see that also in myself. Good luck , God bless

    I despair.

So, so often I have written on this web-site and elsewhere that the diagnosis of "Morton’s neuroma" is fatuous, and is not the cause of fore-foot pain. It is a vogue diagnosis at present. When that surgery is "successful" is only because the nerve/s has been destroyed and so anaesthetising that/those toe/s.

    When will they ever ask?

    When will they ever learn?

      Hello JP,

Can you tell me if you're still in pain from the neuroma removal?

I'm thinking of having mine removed it hurts so bad.

It's on my ankle between the foot & leg.

      Thank you~

After my experience, I have to agree with jp. My Morton's (or so it was thought after 2 opinions as to whether it was actually MN) wasn't the cause of all my pain and since the op my toes have suffered nerve damage. My pain was and still is caused by a bunion which has pushed the 3 rd toe over the 4th and is getting worse.  I now have to have further surgery to correct the bunion and 2 toes to stop further damage. Two different surgeons had different opinions.  This is just my experience and everyone is different, but for me, if I'd known, I wouldn't have b

I wouldn't have bothered with surgery.  However, I don't want to discourage you as many folk have found this successful and I do hope your foot improves soon.

Margaret, Im so sorry you have have such an awlful time with your foot. My Dr was quiet imformative with me as far as my MN,I do trust him and I did alot of research and talking to others that had the surgery, Im quiet comfortable with mine, glad I had it done, no regrets. I believe to many people think that after they have the surgery you should be healed right then, when that it isnt the case. I do hope you find some relief, no to mention a dr that diagnoised you properly, as mine has me. God bless

      Hi Jeanne

How long did it take for you to feel that you were fully recovered? I am 7 weeks post op with no relief in sight. Starting to feel desperate

      Hello Jean,

I'm new here as if 7/31/16.

Can you please tell me if your neuroma pain has gone away since the surgery?

The one I have is at the ankle., between the leg and foot. I've had it ten years and it's gotten worse, as I think I hurt it when mopping the kitchen floor with me feet.

      Thanks~

Hello Yaffa, I had my surgery Nov 3rd so I am pretty close to you about 7 or 8 weeks. I was told by my dr, that my foot would always have a numb in it, id rather have the n umb than the pain. However, sometime i do have pain in ball of foot also, i notice that its different in different shoes, I go back i a week, im going to ask if this is all normal, and see if he will get me some insoles for  my shoes. I do hope it gets better, my aunt had it done and she is doing well with it, she says it takes time so completely recover, or feel better she says, the numb will always be there you just use to it.Keep in touch, Ill pray for you. God Bless

Hi Jean. Thanks for your reply. I am so depressed. My foot feels too terrible. I can't stop thinking about it. I am constantly aware of the discomfort. I am so sorry I had the surgery. I feel so much worse now than I did before the op.i just don't see any progress. I am pleased that you are happy with your result. I hope you continue to do well. Best wishes.

Please don't despair. I had my op on the 3rd March 2015, and it's taken a long time to recover. But I have recovered, apart from the odd lack of sensation which feels like a bandage around my toe, and the pain has gone. I can now walk miles, and I can wear all the shoes I thought I would have to throw away. There were times when I regretted having the op; now I feel completely different, and I'm so glad I did. I am continuing with my calf-stretching exercises, so that I don't get it in the other foot. I wish I'd been told about these early on - they are an important preventative measure, and perhaps I'd have avoided surgery altogether if I'd the correct diagnosis at the right time instead of being told it was arthritis -without even an examination. Be patient. Things will improve.

      Hi Grimspite,

I'm new to this group & thinking of having the neuroma removed from my ankle.

I've had it ten years & hurt it when mopping the kitchen floor with my feet.

      Does yours still hurt?

      Do you regret the surgery?

How long was your recovery time?

      Thanks~

Sorry for the delay, I was on holiday. I have never heard of a neuroma in the ankle, so I'm not sure you've got the right group here. A neuroma is nearly always between the third and fourth toes.

Hey Yaffa, Im so sorry you are dissappointed in your surgery, and are depressed. I wish you could stop focusing on how the foot hurts, and try to look at maybe in a positive way, (I know that is hard). I am back at work and I do really good up to 8 hours of work, but anything over that and i i feel a difference. I cannot say its the same, because my dr warned me, that I have pain now, and It will always be numb with the nerve out, it will be a different feeling I will have to get use to. I do hope and wish you welll, I here if you want to talk

Hi Virginia. My neuroma surgery was 9 months ago. I am sorry I had it. My foot feels terrible. It is still stiff and tight and very uncomfortable. I have an appointment in two weeks time for a second opinion with another surgeon. I am hoping he can do something to fix this as I dread being left with my foot like this for the rest of my life. I hope you have a better experience. Good luck. Let us know how it goes.

      Hi Yaffa -

It's taken me a long time to get over my op, but I've just been away for a week's holiday which involved a lot of walking, and I haven't had a single problem. I was still having twinges 9 months after my op, but it's now 17 months and although the toe will never feel quite the same again the fact that the pain has totally gone is a small price to pay. There are a lot of negative posts about the operation on this site, but my experience was a good one. However, it does take a long time to recover because you are using the foot during the recovery process.
