The area by my incision is swollen. I have tried ice, did not help. Also my incision hasn’t closed all the way. Anyone had the same results?

Hi Rona,
I too was very swollen for at least two to three weeks. I just continued with elevation and ice and it eventually got better. Elevation is important as well as ice. Toes above the heart! Even after 7 weeks, I sometimes feel it can be a little swollen. In regard to your incision, I didn't have that problem.
Hang in there!

I was swollen for at least four weeks. REALLY swollen for at least two to three. When you say your incision is open is it more so than my photo? I had posterior surgery so my incision may be small but there are some open areas when this was taken about 2 1/2 weeks post op.

I think swelling is not uncommon after 2 weeks. But if the incision is not fully healed I would get it checked out. Possibly the nurse at your gp surgery or your gp.
I had some concerns about my incision after my revision (particularly since the revision was due to infection of my first THR) I went to my surgery and saw the nurse. She referred me to the doctor. She sent me back to the hospital who checked it out and all was fine. But I am glad I had it checked out.

Hi Rona,
I agree with Mike go get it checked out, swelling is common especially after hip surgery, both mine healed differently.
My second one weeped continuously, it turned out to be natural and part of the healing process, my first didn't weep at all.
But seeing the doctor put my mind at rest
all the best
