I Hate PR!!!

I had the herald spot for about a week before friday the 20th when i went to the doctors and was officially diagnosed... and since then it just seems to have got so much worse... the spots are appearing all over my body, and the more i get the more i stress, i feel its a vicious circle.I'm soooooo itchy and my doctor did nothing to help. I'm only 16 but this rash is so depressing i just wanna curl up and avoide the rest of the world until it goes. Has anyone any ideas what causes it or what might help reduce it?

Good luck to all of you xx

some people have had success with tanning beds

were you under any stress before it started to happen?

It sounds like you are at the very early stages of PR. I've had it twice now, both times it lasted, from start to finish, for about 4m. For many people though it's much shorter. I think I get a nastier form of it, which isn't actually called PR but that's what I originally selfdiagnosed myself with.

I think what upset me most was that there is no known cure. All you can do is relieve the symptoms. I found bio oil helped, but everything else made the irritation worse. One essential thing are antihistimine tablets to stop you scratching yourself silly. I took them every day.

Sunbeds do seem to help but my dad has melanoma so that's a no no for me.

Other things that have helped me include shapooing my whole body with antidandruff shampoo - seems to relieve the flakiness in the later stages, and I also upped my intake of vitamin D. Not sureif it helped, but I was willing to try anything!

Keep posting on here - it does help to know you're not alone, I think. Remember it will go away eventually and at least by the time the nicer weather comes you will be rid of it and able to wear short sleeves etc.

    good luck.

I know exactly how you feel! I'm on week three of it now, been to two GPs and a dermatologist.

The dermatologist told me to take an antihistamine (Cetirizine Hydrochloride: available over the counter) an night (so I could sleep), and gave me an antifungal/corticosteroid cream (Lotriderm) to be used twice a day (not more!) to relieve the god-awful itching. He also told me to use a moisturiser once a day because the skin peeling as each patch matures can leave the skin v. dry and make it more itchy.

    So:

    Cetrizine

    Lotriderm

    Moisturiser

That ought to help you sleep at night and get through the day without too much discomfort.

Also, I was told that making it hot really aggravates it. This makes sense cause after a shower all the little patches on my body would get quite red and angry. So, avoid taking too hot a shower, and maybe keep the room a little cooler. Avoid working up a sweat.

I know it really sucks... I hate-hate-hate it too.

    Good luck!
