I hate sunny days- you, too?

Posted , 7 users are following.

I guess it goes back to my childhood as I always wanted to stay in the house and read books, etc.

Outside, I felt (and still do) that I'm subject to closer scrutiny than on a cloudy day.

On sunny days, I have to spend more time preparing to go out, selecting my clothes (always black) shoes, more time on makeup, hair, etc.

My ideal day is rainy, horrible, cold - where I can sit home by the fireplace, on my comfy recliner watching tv, crocheting or reading a good book.

On a sunny day I feel I am obligated to go out.

Who do you think is scrutinising you? Most people are much too busy worrying about themselves and their own problems to give you a second look let alone thought. You are judging yourself and putting this on others.

There is nothing wrong with preferring to read books than go out as we are all different aren't we? x

Being over self conscious is part of my anxiety problem. I'm not saying this in any way is logical or makes sense - just my feelings. Also, I am well aware that I am way too sensitive about what others think.

      Thanks for your input.

its part of our anxiety and low self - esteem - all not intentional which is why we have to make more of an effort to face the fear

Hi Rose - I'm a "Rose," too, isn't it strange we both have the same aversion to sunlight?

My favorite day is cold and rainy -definitely good for perching by the fire and covering up with a comfy throw - maybe do some crocheting or watch a good mystery. I love mysteries - do you?

On the "fear" front -the older I get the more I try to avoid the things I fear. Not good, I know.

I tried going to a therapist for that very issue a few weeks ago but all he wanted to do was put me on a strong anti anxiety drug. Not for me.

I've seen too many people totally messed up with them.

I was disappointed as his biography said he was very spiritual, a meditation teacher, etc so I thought for sure he would give me advice how to handle my anxiety without drugs.

I know exactly what you mean. Last summer I made the excuse of not going out much because it was too hot and couldn't wait for the colder months to come. I don't know if it's an anxiety thing but once the cold and damp weather came I felt better. I could go out covered up and the weather was the perfect excuse to get home quickly to my place of safety. Sounds bazaar I know but there it is.

I think I'm the only person who prefers "standard time" over daylight saving time. I love it when evening comes on early - around 4:30 PM - that's candlelight and fireplace time for me!

    Hi Ro

I've skipped over to your post haha

You mirror me almost exactly, the warmer the weather the more I feel self conscious about my appearance, my problem not anybody elses, it's not a bad thing to be checking our appearance before we go out.

Back in my 20's I gained a fear of going out in daylight because of not wanting to be on show, I was fine going out in the dark or under cover of a brolly on a rainy day, the way I overcame it was to gradually make myself go out daily no matter how bad I felt, it took a few years to conquer it, I still have those same feelings but I now quite enjoy going out on lovely sunny days especially with other people, and I feel so much more relaxed when in a different area where people don't know me. I much prefer autumn to summer. And yes a agree with a previous post, other people couldn't care less about us unless we start singing and dancing about in the street haha 😃

I also prefer dark nights! it's not odd it's just what we prefer! I much prefer autumn to summer, it does seem that most people prefer hot days but that doesn't make us odd, I couldn't holiday in a hot country either, it would drain me!! I'd prefer a snowy holiday. You are not alone in your thinking!!

Wow, all these years I thought I was the only one who felt this way - it's as if I was reading my own thoughts! The only thing that is a comfort about sunny days for me is being able to hide behind sunglasses!

Even as a child I always preferred to play out when it was windy & overcast, when all the sun-worshippers were indoors, and I've always felt more comfortable going out to post my letters at night time in the summer (& winter), when there is less chance of being seen, and ironically I feel safer in the dark! Being visible is like being in a goldfish bowl, and feels like all eyes are on me, although I know that's not the case - it just feels that way, & darkness is protective, with a safety blanket of stars to admire as I walk to & from the post box. 😃

I think you have just echoed exactly how I am JayDee, I think I was born preferring cold weather, always hated heat waves, hate really cold weather too but love autumn, I love dark nights. I can relate to all that you have said haha 😃
