I have a dislocated ankle and a tr fracture surgery with plate and screws for four weeks ago

during these times I know we’re not supposed to go to the doctors and the hospitals unless emergency due to the virus pandemic

but I fell 2 days ago on the ball of my foot & I wasn’t wearing my cam boot

I had a trimenial fracture surgery with plate and screws and a dislocated ankle they put back into place 4 weeks ago

my husband caught me but my foot already had hit the ground and I had immediate pain that shot up the side of my ankles.

i’ve been resting my ankle elevated and icing twice a day if I don’t touch it there’s no pain

there’s swelling around my ankle and if I put too much pressure down on my heel it aggravates my ankle and I feel a lil pain

omg i pray its just sensitive ans swollen from the jar from the fall.

has anyone else ever experienced this and where they OK with their bones and screws and plates staying in place?

please help with any info , thank you

A little about me. I had a trimalleolar fracture 2/14/2019. Months of discomfort, going for pt which is a must, started back to gym/spin Jan. 2020. I always knew that I would have metal removed. Had that done on 3/02/2020. Today 3/10/2020 had surgical staples removed and life is good. I am in a boot and will start pt for 8 weeks next week. I already know this was an excellent move and I'm happy I did not wait to have the plate and screws removed. My bone has healed perfectly as seen in x-rays at the doctor's office. The stiffness I experienced even after a year was from the metal in ankle. Right now I am feeling no stiffness and hope it continues. I am so grateful to be feeling this well.

I never fell during recovery . But the swelling continued for many months after original surgery. Icing and elevating is a must. The plate and screws are put in to help the bone and ligaments heal. Call your doctor just to be on the safe side. At four weeks I was still a mess. Good Luck!

hi hon I am glad that they took the plate and screws out of your ankle

      that is fantastic news

So they only took out your screws because of the stiffness and mobility issues?

I had asked my doctor will they take out mines and he said no that they’re in forever

I’m so sad that I fell I was doing so good and walking much better on my foot with crutches and the Cam boot

but that one time I didn’t have it on a course of the time I fell

I took a look at it right now it’s just a little swollen and looks like it might possibly get bruised but that’s it today I’m just elevating and icing I have my Cambout on but I’m not walking on it to give it a break because I walked on it for the past two days

I went to my ortho and said I wanted metal out. He did not hesitate and scheduled surgery. Had it done 2 1/2 weeks ago.

I had a trimalleolar fracture with plate and screws. Some people don't have the metal taken out. I remember when I was in the hospital a nurse had a similar surgery and she had the metal taken out. I knew then I would too
