I have a weird lump on the inside of my ankle?

Okay, so I play soccer at my college, and for the past few weeks, my ankle has been feeling really weird. It feels like it really needs to crack but can't, but at the same time, it also feels really loose. There is a quarter sized lump of swelling on the medial side, just below and behind the malleolus. My ankle is pretty stiff and definitely has less less range of motion than the other ankle. I feel pain in the front of my ankle and the back (like in front of my achilles) with plantar flexion, with a little bit on the medial side where the swelling is. Forced dorsiflexion makes the back of my ankle hurt, more on the medial side, and if i really push down I can feel it in the front of my ankle and radiating down my arch and up the inside of my ankle and kind of up my calf too.

Does anyone have any ideas of what this could be?

I dont have any idea what is wrong but my suggestion would be to have it checked/xrayef

What I can tell you is the ankle I broke was giving me issues prior to breaking it

I ignored it and just kept walking and working on it until a slip down 2 stairs broke it

    Hey Jen,

Im not a physio of any description, but Ive had a bunch of ankle and foot issues. It sounds a bit like planter fasciitis or bursitis of one of the tendons around the back of the ankle.

Try rolling your foot out slowly on a golf ball.

I would definitely be seeing a physio asap, especially if you are playing regular sports.

If the planter fasicia or the achilles is inflammed, you don't want to make it worse.
