I have all the symptoms of uti

Posted , 3 users are following.

I have pain 24/7, urge to urinate, crying when I open my flipflow valve to release the urine, shivers, vomiting and obvious blood in the urine. I can also tell you its red/orange in colour very cloudy and a very bad odour. Loss of interest in eating and drinking is causing the pain in my side to get sharp. Yet gp said no uti. I don't know what to do. I am also suffering with fatigue.

If the GP has tested your urine, they must be right about no uti - even a simple dipstick test shows white blood cells when I'm having a uti. If they haven't tested, go back with a sample!

Thank you for your comment. Yes I did and she said woe oh my goodness. This is a bad one. Asked me if my catheter was flowing, I said more like trickle than flow. She marked it as urgent. They said nitrates and sugars but no infection. GP said she was baffled by it and I was to be brave and see how I am in two weeks. 1 week to go. But now I'm in agony and my right side is red and swollen. I'm confused about what to do.

Pammie, you have a catheter and every doctor worth their pay scale should know that a catheter is the ideal way to get a UTI.  Nitrites are indicative of a UTI even without leukocytes (the doc should know this!).  Ditto blood and pain.  It's Sunday but I suggest you don't mess about and try to get to somewhere where you can get help.  One big problem with catheters is that the tip can actually damage the wall of your bladder - this may have caused the bleeding but it will also allow bacteria (always present in your urine) to latch on to the compromised bladder wall and set up an infection big time.

I think your GP has taken on board the Antimicrobial Stewardship advice that says NOT to prescribe antibiotics for a UTI as, in general, they clear up after a few days.  This may be true, even with catheters and I'd be the first to say they were previously all to ready to prescribe AB for anything but with the blood and pain I reckon you need something now!

You don't want to wait for it to get up to your kidneys and maybe cause sepsis (right side red and swollen?).  Go now and get help.  If I'm wrong that's OK  but I think you need to find out today rather than wait another week.  The dipstick test can be very unreliable - believe me, after two bouts of husband having catheter-related sepsis I would definitely get a second opinion right now.

Thanks so much taking the time to write and try and help. I didn't mention that like you're husband I have had four lots of sepsis. The last one was the worst. ITU and family told to prepare themselves for the worst. But me being me I fought back. I was very very lucky. I have called out of hours Dr who told me get to my GP tomorrow. As temp is high I am dosing on bladder spasm tablets as tube is physically jumping and paracetamol to bring temp down and and anti sickness tablets.

I hope you're at the GP as I type!  I can't believe they would be so indifferent to you after FOUR rounds of sepsis!!!  My husband had his second just after Christmas and I've got a doc ringing today plus coming out tomorrow to check him over.  The phone call today is because he's started showing nitrites already (no leukocytes) and I need to know which antibiotic to give him as I don;t want to wait til tomorrow.  It's all go!

Pammi, I'm going to message you regarding catheters.  My ideas are fairly radical but, like you, we didn't want a life of endless UTIs and sepsis which are inevitable with a permanent catheter.  This was my husband's first big problem for 5 years and his first UTI in two years.  Hope this helps!

Dr told me she can't see me until next week. I will be reading you're message as right now I am willing to attempt anything. Thanks so much for helping me. Starting to sleep more so I know that the infection is taking hold.
