I have Barrett's Oesophagus, resulting from years of reflux.I'm now 53 years of age, two years ago I went under surgery for a fundoplaction to help the reflux that was having a huge impact on my life.My life has greatly improved from this operation and in the last week I've had tests and so far everything is okay.It just means every year I go back for a endoscopy to make sure it does not turn cancerous. I believe Barrett's is more common in men than women, how true this is Im not sure.

    Hi

My grandmother died of oesophageal adenocarcinoma and now my mum has just died from exactly the same thing according to the death certificate 30th Nov. they were the only females in the family and now I am the last female remaining. I constantly suffer from heartburn etc, it never goes away. I'm not one to visit the Doctor. Does anyone think I should have a checkup without sounding like a Hypocondriac

I was diagnosed in 2002 with Barretts oesopheugus, Ive suffered with reflux and heartburn since 1980. I only wish that it had been detected earlier. When it flares up it makes my life a misery. My diet is sensible and I dont drink or smoke. You really need to see your G.P asap . My son also has problems and is recieving treatment. Early detection helps. so please go and see your G.p.
