Hello,

Yesterday I was prescribed Citalopram 10mg and I was wondering how long does it take to really kick in? Also if anyone could share their stories about their use of this medicine it would be much appreciated, because the only thing I have felt it drowsiness from it so far.

Hi jo, don't be terrified it's better than the anxiety and depression!

It took me a few days to talk myself into taking the first tablet, my head didn't explode when I did!

I'm 7 weeks in now and still getting side effects and everyday there's something but the dark days seem to have passed. Give it a try. Good luck 🍀

It was about 5-7 days and I started to feel much better. I don't remember the drug(s) I was prescribed prior to Celexa, but they were both AWFUL. I came off of both at about the 10 day mark, they actually made me feel worse.

HTH, best to you , M

Im on day 5, for me the last few days have been very uncomfertable, but I am determined to keep trucking through, until it starts to kick in. I was (and still am) absolutly terrifyed of taking the medication. Some of the side effects I am experiencing include the following. Headache, Nausea, tingly feelings in hands and lips, fatigue, disturbed sleeping, and jitteriness. I am optimistic it will get better though, so I am just gonna wait it out for a bit and see how everything goes.

Ok, and I'm going to add that these meds are amazing for most people, and though they don't suit everyone, there are other SSRI's on the market that would suit others - everyone is different.  For me though, they've been amazing - after many, many years of battling with anxiety and depression, I recovered on these.

These work incredibly slow - often it takes around 3-4 months to feel any small benefit, and can be about 6 months before you feel better.  Some people recover quicker, and others take even longer.  You can't hurry recovery.  Upping your dose won't make it happen any quicker either.  It'll happen when it wants to.

Recovery comes in waves, so your journey may be full of many highs and lows, but it will all even out eventually.  Mark small changes in months, not weeks.

Lastly - prepared to be patient, very patient.  It can be a long tough road, but  it's great when you get there xxxx

Ive also started three days ago, I hate them I just feel unwell, I have headache all day, last night I woke up had stomach cramps , burning skin sensation and sweating  , then the symptoms disappeared. It frightened the living shoes out of me. I guess it must of been a panic attack. I suffer depression and social anxiety. But if this is what it takes to feel 'better' so far I'm not convinced.

It does get better Janine.  I was ill with depression and anxiety for 16 long years and anti depressants and counselling didn't help much.  I started SSRI's and recovered completely within 6 months and have been well ever since which is now around 15 years.

The meds are tough and they take a long time - but its so worth it.

      xx
