I have been diagnosed with Bletharitis-

this was after a holiday last year in Sri Lanka which was extremely humid and the air con on constantly. I developed the condition about 8 weeks after returning home. My biggest problem is the pain in my eyes during the night. I can cope well during the day, but despite using Lacri-Lube at bedtime I wake up in pain and discomfort every night. I have also been prescribed visco-tears for the day and am at present taking a 50 day course of low-dose antibiotics - which have had no beneficial effect and I am about 21 days into the course. Has anyone any ideas PLEASE as the sleepless nights are causing me so many other problems (as you can imagine!) Thank you for reading this.

It's a problem that can be controlled, improved or resolved and there are many helpful suggestions on this site. The thing that is often missed is in the label "blepharitis". "Itis" is "inflammation of" and it's often forgotten that the skin around the eye is also inflamed. So eye wipes etc., also deal with the eyelid. I believe that it is helpful to take your skin (head) and hair into the process too and deal with any problems that cause flaky skin. Review your hair and skin care products to avoid anything that could exacerbate the problem. I found that by using T-gel to wash my hair and cleanse my eyes when showering made a huge difference. Like you and others I've had no success with visco-tears or prescribed stuff. Persistent good hygiene seems to be the answer. Take heart and best wishes.

I'm sorry you are suffering from this condition. I am wondering, though, why you think there is a relationship between its onset and your holiday. That would seem, to me, to be more a coincidence than a cause/effect thing.
Having said that, I acknowledge the fact that various conditions in climates our bodies aren't used to can result in one or another kind of 'issue'. (The most frequent is probably related to the drinking water, or eating the likes of vegetables that, while otherwise fine, have 'picked up' something from water they've been washed in.)
And doctors, wise as many are, sometimes are 'shooting in the dark' when prescribing for afflictions of which they have little knowledge.
I'd suggest researching this topic here, and via Google, for alternative treatment ideas.
Good luck!

Now to ian 1964 - I actually slept quite a bit better last night! Know why? Yes, you're correct - I didn't use the Lacri-lube for the first time in absolute ages. So is that just a 'coincidence' or shall I just wait and see what happens if I don't use it again? I shall continue with the warm bathing before bed of course and many thanks to Inquisitive for recommending T-gel. I don't have a dry scalp or any dry skin normally, I admit to being quite sensitive to some sun creams and Fairy liquid which cause problems with my hands.
Gosh how easy is it to rabbit on - sorry everyone - I don't ever do Forums or Facebook etc. but this has been a really good experience. Thank you all once again. Judith
