Hi. I was diagnosed with polymyalgia two weeks ago and my gp started me on 15 mg steroid tablets doctor said that I would be pain free in 48 hours but I'm not 8 days later and the pain is so much better I am able to get out of bed in the morning get dressed quite quickly not so stiff after sitting, but I still have some pain it has not gone completely. I can't walk fast at the moment. Has it been like this with anyone else ? Doctor is hoping that the pain will be gone when I see him in 3 weeks time !

yep jenny,  the rule of thumb  seems to be a starting dose of 20mg   does  the  trick  then drop down  slowly, my starting does was 20mgt and the pain went in around 4 days, so dont despare .

I started my tablets 9 days ago and after a few days I felt a lot better and am not being woken up in the night with leg pain I am hoping that the rest of the pain will gradually go away. The side affects aren't very nice!!

As others have suggested, you may find it better to go up to 20mg.  I had to go up from 15 to 20, and split the dose as it wore off before 24 hours.  I only became essentially pain-free at 20 (10+10)mg.

Hi jenny, I started on 20, felt better after couple weeks and good after a month, PMR pain free, but it did take about a month. Good luck on your PMR journey, think positive and try to smile. Smiling 🙂
