I have suffered with eczema for years under the doctors and hospital having PUVA treatment at the moment but the constant itching on my hands is keeping me awake. Can anyone suggest anything to help.

Are you constanly putting a good cream on like doublebase gel? Mine was totally out of control for a few years but after seeing a dermatologist, I started using doublebase and laying off the steriod creams. Have you tried having a bath and then putting your creams on? Works wonders for me. Also, I found taking antihistamines at night worked pretty well, as they make you drowsy so you don't wake up as much. Other than this, I found dealing wth my anxiety has also meant that when I wake up at night, I can easily get back to sleep again and thus, not itchng as much. Using ice and something to cool the inflamed area feels amazing and can give a lttle break and a chance to fall asleep. Hope this helps a bit xx

      Hi Amanda

I only have creams like epiderm and hydromol for moisturising, what is your double base gel that you use.

      Kind regards

Hi Jean, it's just calleed doublebase gel. It is in a clear and pink plastic tub. Ask your doctors to prescribe it for you and give it a go xx

I too am having PUVA treatment but on my feet but for psoriasis. I have had 15 out of 30 sessions and the PUVA itch which is a recognised reaction began after a few sessions and drives you 'insane' at night so you have my sympathies.  I have since learned from other hospital websites that you should wash your hands/feet when you return home to wash any residual psoralen (what they put in the water) off afterwards - this is important although I was never given this instruction as each hospital has their own methods. I only discovered this through research. I now wash  with diprobase emollient cream which you can get from Boots or Amazon. At night I put on diprobase emollient ointment which although greasy helps with the itch and I take an antihistamine (piriton -but the one that makes you drowsy). It provides some relief. It will wash off the duvet cover so don't worry. The itch will stop when your full treatment is over. I have had a four week break from the PUVA and the itch went away as I went on holiday but am restarting tomorrow and know the itch will be back! I hope this helps. If it doesn't then I have another suggestion which I am about to try myself but don't want to overload you with possible remedies. Wishing you success!!!!!!

Thank you for giving me the advice I shall go and buy the diprobase emollient  later on today. The hospital never gave me any advice only to moisturize a couple of times a day. I am my ninth session tomorrow so I know the next day i will be itching like mad.

      Many thanks

      Jean

I only use natural products by an online company called Homescents, Laundry and house hold products. i also love their soothing travel balm that really helps my hands to calm down. I was recommended the products by a work colleague and they have really helped calm things down for me.
