I have been on Cipramil for over a month now and before suffered boughts of depression and was a naturally anxious person. My mother has Bipolar disorder and was terrified that I too had the condition as something hadn't been right for several years. I took other antidepressants and they didnt really work. Taking Cipramil has made me into a much more focused and calmer person. Thankfullyit hasn't affected my sex life. I read how people taking Cipramil could not orgasm. I find it takes longer to orgasm but that it has enhanced my sex life. I have put on a little weight but I think that is due to me rather than the medication. I am writing this as I only read negative things about cypramil and just want to share the story that it has worked for me so far. I feel normal for the first time in years and only regret that I didn't look at the possibility of me having an anxiety disorder sooner as life was pretty negative from my point of view, even though things were great. I recommend it to anyone with anxiety.

Thanks for your comments. I am in a similar situation having looked after a bi-polar mother for years and was also worried that I might end up going the same way! She died recently and, after approx 3 months I am having trouble coping and it was very distressing. I am working fulltime but finding it very difficult. I started on Cipramil very recently - may I ask what dosage worked for you? I am on 10mg at present.

Hopefully not being allowed to drink alcohol might help me lose weight and counteract the effects of the drug. I have been on a diet and have lost 2.5 stone over the past 2 years and was hoping to continue.

I must admit I was/am still pretty ignorant about the side affects of Citalopram/Cipramol.My G.P, advised using Vardenafil 20mg's (a Viagra type drug with less side affects) whilst using the anti-depressants. I did althought,it's very expensive, up to £38 for four tablets, it did counter the negative affect's of the Citalopram, and, if anything, enhanced my sex life.

That said, I am finding that as I am reducing down in my doses of Citalopran (Started on 40 mgs a day, now on 10mgs) I am finding that the less dosage I am on, the more I find my sex life is returning to normal without the aid of Vardenafil.

As for putting on weight, I have, but not noticably, maybe one stone over the 14 months, but I did need to put some on!

I have one more month of 10mgs and my G.P. wants me to reduce to one every other day after that, I must admit I haven't noticed much difference in a change from 20mg to 10mg.

Best of luck, glad you people are there for me and others

Having read about Cypramil and the above comments on the product Iìm now more convinced that Cypramil is the cause of my weight gain. I'm 53 years old and have high blood pressure, underactive thryroid and have been on Cypramil for the past 18 months. Since June last year I've gained 8kg and the way is going I will be gaining another 6 by the end of this June. Can I go off Cypramil how or could I use another anti-depressant. I'm trying to cope with very abnormal circumstances in my marriage and Cypramil has helped me to cope better. What should I do. Thanks for your help. Have a nice day:roll:

I was very interested to readabout peoples' reactions to Cypramil. I have been on it off any on for about 3 years now. 20mg per day. I find it wonderful and do not to my knowledge suffer any side effects. I have an alcohol problem and previously wen I have been drinking I have not taken the cypramil as anti depressants are ineffective with alcohol. However, on ceasing drinking I have found it to be invaluable. I was not aware that it caused weight gain and am interested in this aspect. I am currently premenopausal and seem to be putting weight on round my middle. I am 52 and generally considered to be very slim which I am very anxious to retain. Any comments welcome.smile
