Okay so I have OCD and when I was on Citalopram before I was on 40mg for my OCD. I went back on it and I have been taking 30mg for about a little over 4 weeks and I still get anxious everyday and have intrusive thoughts still. Today seemed okay I did get some intrusive thoughts and anxiety but it seemed a little easier to get through. Until tonight when my OCD started bringing up past intrusive thought that really bothered me and now my anxiety is through the roof and it seem difficult to let go. Anyone with the same issues or any positive feedback. When does it start to help anxiety and intrusive thoughts. I just feel defeated!!

I feel like I’m going through something quite similar. Stayed on 20mg all year but my anxiety just kicked in out of no where last month so I decided to go back up to 30. It’s been 4 weeks for me too, and while I thought I was doing a lot better the past week I had a really bad night last night. Even my Ativan wouldn’t help. I’m still hopeful tho, 4 weeks is usually the bare minimum of when a antidepressant can start to work, so I’m going to give it another few weeks then consider going up to 40mg myself. Hopefully I won’t have to.

Just give it a few more weeks yourself. I was quite discouraged after last night thinking I should only be getting better now, not having major panic attacks, but these things happen. Could have even been a side effect of the 30’s getting back into the system.

Do you have just anxiety or do you get intrusive thoughts as well?

Both, and SAD on top of it so it’s all worse this time of year.

I’ve downloaded a meditation app on my phone this time and I found it helps sooo much with my intrusive thoughts.

Hi Angela,/please note that citrolopram will take at least 10/12 weeks before the side effects goes, anxiety will feel that it is getting worse before it gets better ,but better it will,it just takes your body a built up first.Give it time to build up in your body first.

It has helped with my intrusive thoughts before. Do you think it will again? I am sorry to ask so many questions but it is just so hard to see the light when you have been in the dark for so long, longer than I have ever been.

Hi Angela/You need to stay on 1 dosage and give it 10/12 weeks for the medication to build up inside your system ,then you will start to feel the medication working.
