I have been on this drug i.e. Motival for 27 and a half ...

I have been on this drug i.e. Motival for 27 and a half years. I was prescribed it originally for post natal depression. I have tried to come off it twice now and both times ended up in hospital. I am now determined to come off it and also at the moment my worse fears have been realised in that it is unavailable due to manufacturing problems. I only have 4 months supply left so have no option to taper off over those four months. It is a situation I have always dreaded as it is a very old drug and I know full well that it will be discontinued at some point in the near future anyway. I have cut down by a fifth of the dose (only ever been on one pill daily) so am on course to be off them (god willing) in the next four months - I just hope I can make the time scale. I am very happy to be coming off them I just wish I had more time and no time scale to keep to. I believe this is a drug no one should be put on as the withdrawl effects can be totally horrendous. I was off it once for 10 weeks and it was the worse time of my life.

I would be very grateful for any feedback or help or advice on this drug and coming off it. I am doing it as slowly as I can i.e. filing it down as cutting this tablet because of its shape etc is impossible.

Thank you for any help you may be able to give me - I need it!!!!

    Hi Tom,

So very sorry to learn that you too are suffering from the dreaded withdrawal effects of Motival. I do hope you start to feel better soon. I so agree with your views on both the medical fraternity and the drug companies. Far from relieving suffering they have done a great deal to contribute, indeed cause a lot of people a huge amount of distress and suffering in the Motival scenario.

Best wishes and I hope you feel better soon

    Jenny

Hello first to Tom and I am sorry to hear about your withdrawal problems but glad you have found this web site. Your withdrawal programme sounds a similar course to mine and I am doing ok now - getting better every day. You will start to feel a difference believe me and you have done the worst bit already. I agree completely with your comments regarding the manufacturers too.

Hi Jenny. Good to hear that you are going away for a few days. I hope you have a good time and come back refreshed and ready to continue (and win) the battle.

    Take care everyone

    Brenda smile

Just to let everyone know that Moditen (Fluphenazine) is now available again according to the manufacturers Sanofi Aventis who I rang today.

    Best wishes

I like many of you have been on Motival for over 15 years and fluphenazine alone for another 4/5 years. I was changed to Citalopram (useless), Fluoxatine and now Venlafaxine. I am finding Ven the best but am not sure they are truly for an anxiety disorder, which I have, definitely never depression. Anyway to cut a long story short since stoppin them I have developed several physical illnesses ([b:dcef9c2817]which for over a year were put down to anxiety). [/b:dcef9c2817]It now transpires that I may have Cileac disease (allergy to gluten) which if I have has made my mouth full of sores and ulcers. Must now have the camera put down into my stomach. Secondly I have painful muscle problems, mainly in my neck. Been to rheumatologist who is going to put loads of awful needles into my neck and shoulder muscles and lastly and worse of all - I have been diagnosed with breast cancer. Not saying that Fluphenazine have caused any of these but I was PERFECTLY HEALTHY before coming off Fluphenazine. What think all of you - I think we really need MY WONDER DRUG back again and am contemplating getting some from the USA.[u:dcef9c2817] Please forgive any errors and omissions as my brain is definitely not working these days (the other day I asked my husband to pass me an \"umberella\" instead of a banana from the fruit bowl. Crazy, or not!!![/u:dcef9c2817]

    Dear Jenny,

Greetings from Mexico!!. Like yourself I was a Motival addict for 25+ years until they discontinued it locally. Mi sister, who is a psychiatrist put me on Numencial and I made the switch without problems. Eventually I lowered the daily dosage from 2 to 1/2 pills daily until I was able to kick it for good. I know what you are going through but I am sure Numecial will help you.

    Warmest wishes,

    Miguel Valdés
