I have been prescribed naproxen 500gr twice daily

i have severe shoulder arthritis and deep injections haven't worked. I'm also having physio but this is painful too. It is effecting my quality of life, especially sleep. My GP has prescribed Naproxen 500 twice daily. I have 2 questions:

- how long before they start to ease the pain?

- the pills are not coated, so I break them in half as it makes them easier to swallow. Will this reduce their effectiveness?

Any comments/advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Catty2

Catty: Naproxen is an antiflamatory.  It really does not address the pain issues only inflamation.  Injections haven't worked so I would ask for pain meds.  Sometimes we need them to take off the edge.  One trick I have tried is to use Bio-freeze, its a rub to use whenever you are in discomfort.  I apply each morning and each evening before going to bed.  Try it, nothing to lose. I purchase this on Amazon in the large container with a pump.  Good luck, Jan

Naproxen does relieve pain as well as reducing inflammation. I've just checked my drug formulary online (used by doctors and nurses) because I thought there had been some changes but it clearly states it's an analgesic.
