i have been suffering from chronic urticaria since september 2006. I suffer from weals all over my body, except soles and palms and my face, thank god.I have been to gp today, yet again and she prescribed vallergan(trimeprazine tartrate)tablets 3 x 10 mg daily.too soon to see any benefit yet but i live in hope.It makes me very miserable and as so many of you rightly said, only another sufferer really knows what is like.I also use balneum plus cream which i find does relieve the itching a bit.i am now going to look up low salicylate diets on the web now as so many of you seem to find that helps.
i wish you all good luck and hope we are free of this distressing condition very soon

YESTERDAY I HAD TO VISIT MY LOCAL OUT OF HOURS GP SERVICE BECAUSE OF MY SWOLLEN LIPS AND EYELIDS.THEY PRESCRIBED PREDNISOLONE 5 X 15 MG(THIS WAS AT ABOUT 3PM YESTERDAY AFTERNOON).BY 9PM LAST NIGHT ALL MY CU WAS GONE,I DONT MEAN BETTER OR REDUCED I MEAN TOTALLY GONE!I HAVENT HAD ANY SINCE YESTERDAY.NOW,I KNOW THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS A MIRACLE CURE AND THE RELIEF MAY BE ONLY TEMPORARY BUT THE POINT OF ME WRITING THIS POST IS THIS:MY GP WOULDNT PRESCRIBE STEROIDS AS SHE SAID THEY WERE A "LAST RESORT".I HAVE SUFFERED A LOT IN THE PAST 5 MONTHS IF I HAD ONLY KNOWN THEN WHAT I KNOW NOW I WOLD HAVE DEMANDED STEROIDS A LONG TIME AGO.SO MY ADVICE IS THIS-IF YOU HAVE BEEN SUFFERING FOR A WHILE AND YOUR GP WONT PRESCRIBE STEROIDS,NAG THEM.I KNOW THAT IT MAY NOT WORK FOR YOU,AS IT HASNT DONE FOR LOTS OF PEOPLE ON THIS WEBSITE,BUT IT MAY WORK FOR YOU AS IT HAS DONE FOR ME-EVEN THOUGH IT MAY BE TEMPORARY.I FEELA DIFFERENT PERSON SINCE LAST NIGHT.

Great short term fix... not recommended long-term.
