I have been suffering from urticaria(?) or some other kind of itchy skin patches. What can I do?

For over a month I have been having some eczema like symptoms that have been diagnosed as 'hormonal' by one GP and as Urticaria by another. Antihistamines have a very moderate effect in addressing the itch and skin patches that appear randomly, come and go, etc. However, antihistamines make me very constipated and sluggish. Does anyone have any suggestions? (btw I don't think it is a food allergy...)

No. He sent me for some blood tests to ascertain potential food allergies. Actually I suggested urticarial to him as I did suffer from it when I was child and from time to time, in my life, I had episodes of 'itchiness' that resolved themselves and I did not make much of them. Now, instead it's horrendous.

Thing is you have one or two issues there which could be looked at further. You shouod maybe ask for full blood tests to be done if you haven't already. In addition to the usual you should ask for esr cro and ana ti be checked to see if anything is thrown up.

Thank you. In the past I have been tested for thyroid issues, lupus and other complaints but not for Crohn's (if this is what you mean by esr cro). All negative.

Well I think it is a very tricky area. Think when I last looked only a certain percentage of those with Lupus had positive ana or dsdna. Very elusive. Yoy need a specialist who understands this area very well. But yes Crohn's also has to be a consideration. Auto immune disorders are very tricky as you will know to diagnose. Like you I had episodes of urtucaria over the years from childhood. I also had the gut problems. It took a very long time for Behcet's to show itself fully and I was finally diagnosed aged about 40.
