I have been with my boyfriend over 2 years

We were on a short break and got back together. I had an outbreak after we had sex. 2 times. I went to gyno and was tested and have herpes 2. So he went and got tested and tested negative. My question is. Could he have had sex with someone that had herpes and passed it to me without him getting it?

    Hi Lea,

Many people jump to the same conclusion, but it really should be one of things that should be addressed in schools these days. More teens are sexually active at much younger ages these days and do not know the full facts. And many girls blame boys and vice versa. The actual facts are quite different if someone pointed them out to you in the first place.

Genital herpes is usually transmitted by having sex with an infected person. Even if someone with genital herpes doesn't have any symptoms, it's possible for them to pass the condition on to a sexual partner. It is a known fact you can carry Genital Herpes 1 or 2 for at least 2 years, but over this period the effects do become less painful and hardly show, and less likely to show up in a test..

The fact is at least eight out of 10 people who carry the virus are unaware they have been infected because there are often few or no initial symptoms.

These days it is very common, to what it was like 10-15 years ago.

    Regards,

    Les.

Thank you for your answer. We are quite. A mature couple. Lol. I guess what I am worried about is that he could have had sex with someone infected with herpes 2, then gave it to me. He's tests are negative. That makes me think that he had to be with someone else. Does that make sense?

Oh sorry, I assumed you were teenagers! LOL - it's suprising the amount we have on here, and are, how shall I put it, 'naive', probably not the real wording I should use.

Anyway, getting back to you Lea, that is quite possible, if the person had previously had it or was in contact with someone recently. In many cases in just "incubates" (as in 'developing the disease before symptoms appear.').

I think that looks better worded in your case. Sorry, for thinking you were a young teenager! lol - I have a daughter of my own in her teens, and 2 older boys in their 20's!

      Regards,

      Les.

That smile is not meant to be there!! That's a shortcut thats been picked up and parsed as a smilie when it wasn't intended.

There is a possibility that he had a false negative, if he acquired a new infection and w in the last two weeks from someone else.

You also didn't mention if it is HSV 1 or 2? If 2 that is from sexual contact w genitals. Hsv 1 he coukdwof passed to you from oral sex. You also don't mention how Kong ago your sexual contact w someone else was?

Did you test positive by culture? Did you test positive by blood? What blood tests did he have done? IgM or IgG?

I tested positive by a culture from an outbreak area. His test was a blood tests. It's been 4 years since my last sex partner.

    I have herpes 2.

OK.. So it sounds like his infection is new and he is asymptomatic. Did you actually see his tests? When was his last sexual contact w someone other than you?

Post his results on here, covering private info of course and let me have a look. My blood tests came back negative a week after infection, but took a blood test 3 months later and came up positive. Blood tests look for a certain antibody count and if the correct teats are not put in, you can get false negatives.

      6feelbroken, 2 questions....

      1. When you took your first blood test, a week after intercourse...what were your results if you don't mind? IgM? IgG?

      2. Are you HSV 1 or 2 positive? Are you asymptomatic?

      Thanks

I'm dreading my results of the test I took 6-8 days after intercourse and I've been expecting the worst when I do my retest...as stubborn as I may sound...my IgM came up "equivocal" but with the letter "H" next to it.....

      HSV2 IgM. 1:10 H. Titer <1:10

Doc said recent infection....so I think he's absolutely correct given my recent intercousre because I hadn't have sex in almost two years and tested negative throughout Those years and now IgM just shows...can't just come from nothing is how I feel....
