I have buttock pain and numbness for more than 6 months, anyone can advice?

Hi all
I wonder if anyone here has experience of buttock pain and numbness. unfortunately I have this pain since October 2019 and I am finding it difficult to sit down for more than 45 mins to an hour. I have a 9 to 5 desk bound job so it is becoming really tricky at work and I have to stand and work most of the time in order to alleviate the buttock pain. I have done some MRI scans in the area and they are all clear so I have no idea what is happening. It is very disruptive to my day to day life not being able to sit for long. The physio told me it's possibly a combination of muscular pain and coccydynia. I have been doing a lot of stretches and exercises but there is no improvement whatsoever after all these months. I am really down hearted and would really appreciate it if anyone can enlighten me and give me some advice. Many thanks!
Best regards
Joe

Hi, so sorry to hear this it sounds horrid.
When you had MRI, did they scan your back or just bottom area?
You should read up on a condition called Cauda Equina Syndrome.
My partner had this condition and one of the symptoms he had was buttock pain and numbness (saddle Numbness) He had emergency back surgery.
Don't ignore your symptoms and get a second opinion as this condition can be serious.
Hope you are ok
Take care

Hi Louise
I am so grateful for your response. I sometimes feel like I am the only one in the world with these back issues.
The MRI that I did was based around my back and buttocks (spine lumbar and sacral) as the specialist wanted to eliminate slipped disc and other possible causes.
I am sorry to hear about your husband's back issues. I have never heard of Cauda Equina which I have just Google and read about it. In a way, I am relieved I do not have some of the symptoms mentioned (bowel, bladder and leg issues) but it is something I should take note in case I develop any of these in the future, hopefully not.
I will definitely get a second opinion if the back issues are not sorted out at some point. Thank you for your advice. Meanwhile, if you have other advice or things I should look out for, I would really appreciate it.
Take care.
Best regards,
Joe

It sounds like it could be periforis syndrome. The periforis is a muscle deep in your butt cheek. This is a common problem with men that wear a wallet in their back pocket. Sometimes a trigger point injection will do the trick.

Hi Amkoffee
Thank you very much indeed for your response.
I too suspect it might be Piriformis syndrome though none of the doctors, specialists, physio can confirm that. I don't keep my wallet in my back pocket. I have been doing a lot of stretches and exercises which are supposed to help, but no improvement so far.
I have tried sport massage once though did not feel much difference afterwards. I think I will try the osteopath going forward.
Out of interest, did you have Piriformis syndrome in the past?

I did not but they thought I did at first (13 years ago). My back is an absolute mess now but at first I just had a bulging disc and some arthritis. It was very painful.
