I have Cfs and have been of work since April, compared to how I was months ago not being able to get out of bed I am doing better. I have also had gastro problems but at moment no pain. I am a teacher and do really miss teaching, I am considering going back after Christmas on a gradual return but have slight worry could burn and crash again. I have had physio and occupational health and finished now really it's a case of manage it and pace myself. Have got referral for Cfs programme at hospital but it's a four month waiting list and to be honest I need to get structure back in my life. I am asking when or if is right time to go back and what are peoples experiences?

I am a teacher too and have been off work since just before the October half term. I've just been signed off until April and my head has sent me a formal letter inviting me to an 'attendance meeting' in a couple of weeks. I teach a mixed EYFS class which includes 2 year olds. It is a really physical job and I'm still struggling to pace myself properly and have a flare up every few days. I'm so worried that this is the first step to being dismissed on ill health grounds and have no idea how I'm going to get through this meeting - I can't sit for more than 30 mins without needing to lie down and that's on a good day!

So sorry you're struggling. And you're right: pacing is key. Pushing beyond your energy envelope can result in crashes, perhaps lessening chances for recovery (according to a foremost specialist here in the U.S.). If there's any way to avoid attending that meeting, do it. Could your doctor write a letter for you, explaining your illness? You can get better, but need to get plenty of rest and advocate for your own well-being.
