i have emphysema, have had an infection for three weeks. The doctor gave me 3 three different antibiotics, one as a shot, and prednisone. I’m not much better and now I have a burning in my chest especially when I eat but it doesn’t fell like heartburn. Could it possibly be pneumonia? Or some sort of stomach issue from the drugs?

There are tons of better meds than tums, developed in the last 25 years. You might try some of those. My lung doc is very partial to pepcid/famotidine, which has the added blessing of not having to chew chalk. He also says that in at least 20% of his patients there is a worsening of what had been a small hiatal hernia. When that is repaired, he's no longer needed.

I've had Pneumonia and my Dr. had me get a chest x-ray before he would confirm it. He immediately prescribed an antibiotic that was powerful enough to make me better. A complete blood test may discover why your chest is burning. Acid reflux is another possible reason, you need to consult with your Dr.

Hi,
I had this recently during two courses of a/b's and steroids but I wouldn't describe it as burning exactly, it was more like slight indigestion or a slight tightness accompanied by a lot of burping! Of course, I started worrying that it might be a problem with my heart as people have described heart pain as indigestion. That's where this forum is such a comfort as we can all share our worries especially as I have such a horror of medical appointments. Try not to worry too much.
