i have excruciating pain in my foot & don't know what to do

I will start by saying that i have had no injury to my foot. A few weeks ago I woke up in the middle of the night with terrible pain in my left foot. So much pain that i have resided myself to now sleeping on the couch because it kills me to turn over in bed & move the foot even just rubbing against the blankets is bad. For about a week I kept thinking okay it will be better tomorrow. Nope. I have had both an xray & an MRI done on it about a week agao now. They(orthopedic)  say no breaks, sprains, blood clots, tumors. Everything looks fine. things are NOT fine. There answer is to put a boot on it & pt 2x week for 4 weeks.  I can not even touch it myself how am i supposed to go to PT? i am a very strong person emotionally but this has really made me depressed because i can't deal with the pain. i cry myself to sleep most days because the pain is too great, how am i supposed to live like this? I am thinking it will never get any better.  i am only 45 years old. the ortho says could be soft tissue injury around my ankle. pain is all around my ankle & at times down the bone on the side of my foot with no bruising but occasional sweeling & about the same time i developed this bump on the top of my foot that seems to come & go & is sometimes painful. (i forgot to mention that part to ortho but i am calling foot dr tomororw & gettng apt because after some reseach i am highly suspecting the lump is a ganglion cyst. looks & sounds just like it.  i just want to know whats wrong & how to fix this because the pain is unbearable. anyone have similar issues?

Hi. I had a similar situation - went to bed fine and woke up and I couldn't put any weight on my foot. I too suffered for 2 1/1 weeks hoping it would improve. Again I had suffered no injury to cause this. After many scans, xrays and eventually an MRI I have been diagnosed with a fractured calcaneus - after 4 weeks. They also though soft tissue damage i.e. ruptured ligaments around the ankle. I too am in an aircast - this is usually the main form of treatment - to keep the ankle supported. In one of the scans (a duplex)  they picked up that I have quite serious stenosis in the arteries around my ankle - although this will not need surgery it will be checked going forward. The only other form of treatment for me is proper painrelief - which helps a lot. I will be wearing the boot for 6 months. I hope it goes well for you.
