I have globus hystericus, and have studied up alot on the condition. See if you ask me, I don't believe it is purely anxiety causing it, becuase why doesn't everyone with anxiety have globus? I think something must be weakening the throat making it susceptible to this tension and tightening. I have noticed that when my liver gets overloaded(like from doing too many herbal detoxes) I get the sensation all the time. In fact I checked around and there is a link between the liver and the throat. It's called the plum pit sensation. Mine didn't start until after a series of herbal detoxes, which must have overloaded or damaged my liver. So my best thoughts at this point are liver problems, or possible food allergies. Food allergies have a domino effect on the body, they may mess up your stomach which in turn messes up your throat. So if it always seems to happen after a certain food try cutting out that food. Hope this helps, I havn't conquered mine yet, but I went about a month with no symptoms after I stopped eating dairy of any kind!

I find your relating the liver to the throat an interesting theory. Twice in the last 2 years I have been hospitalized with pancreatitis. I am never sick, and these attacks came on suddenly both times and with no apparent cause. I have had CTs and ultra sounds and have found no underlying cause for the pancreatitis. Then today I was diagnosed with globus. I am a laid back person and have always felt that I handled stress well. I worry like everyone does, but am able to shut my brain down and go to bed and sleep.

My globus symptoms are not severe enough that they are affecting my life negatively yet...they are just there and annoying. The busier I keep the less I notice them. The ball in my throat is always there, and the heaviness and achiness across my upper chest is there too. And I have noticed some aching/pain in my jaw and up my neck towards my ears.

When I think about the stressful things that I have been through in my life...a divorce with 2 small children...and the closure of my employment after 25 years ....I wonder...why now? There is virtually nothing going on in my life right now that even comes close to the stress level of those two events. It doesn't make sense. Maybe there is some relationship between the pancreatitis (which is directly related to the liver) and the globus...its an interesting theory...and one I will look in to. Thanks for suggesting that possibility.
