I have had a drink illness for a couple of years and tried to stop on my own without success. I ended up seeing a pyschotherapist who suggested antabuse. My intial thought after reading the side effects made me very wary, but at the same time, it was my only route, so on the 25th October 2005 I decided to give it a try and in all honesty I haven't looked back. It was the best decision I have ever made. For the first week, I did feel slightly sick and suffered with bad headaches but after that, nothing at all. I take one tablet a day, usually early evening. Initially, it did seem to knock me out but now my body seems to have adjusted really well and I feel fine. I don't crave alcohol at all. It' really strange. I don't even miss it and I can even go to a pub with friends and not feel at all uncomfortable around drink. It's been three months now and I've just got my second bottle from the doctors and feel very happy about taking antabuse. My life has improved immensely. It's going to take time, I know, but I would definately recommend anyone who is struggling to stay off alcohol and who wants to be dry to contact their doctor and get this medication a.s.a.p because take it from me, it really does work. I hate to think of the damage I may have done to my body but now with the help of family and friends, my doctor and of course antabuse I can hopefully restore some goodness. I am 35 years old and at long last feel that I can live to a good age and enjoy life with my children.

    Hi

I read with interest your comments above. Well done! I am 50 and have just been prescribed Dislfiram but have not started yet as I have drunk alcohol in the last 24 hours. I just wanted to ask you, whilst taking this medicine, have you drank alcohol at all and if so what were the effects? Are knowing the effects so bad that you are not drinking alcohol? Thanks if you can respond and good luck!

    Yours sincerely

yeah, \"go AA\". go AA and if your anything like me or any of the other true alcoholics in this world you'll probably still get drunk in the future. go AA religiously, like daily, and your risking a relapse still. take a little pill every morning called disulfiram and you'll never need worry about drinking again. it's insurance.
