Bless you. Stress can be a trigger. It is for me any way. What is your doctor doing for you?

    Hi Donna

I have been reading interesting articles about treatment of Crohn's and Colitis using activated charcoal tablets. Please google it. I tried it with my proctitis and results were amazing.

    Cheers

HI Donna... I'd talk to your GP or specialist about this as there may be something they can do.  Stress really doubles me over and it can be something as simple as worrying about something 'stupid!'  It will start with a burning sensation so I do try to relax some before it gets to the point where I'm doubled over - albeit not easy at times and will go from the trots to actually not being able to really go at all.  We were just on holiday and the stress of travelling caused the latter.  (Apparently that's the paridoxical thing about colitis - you can be going a teency bit yet be bunged up!)

    Please take care....

My consultant recommended Psyllium as a good laxative and it really helped.

Hi Pindie! That is really good news!!!! cool (re us chatting b4 about it!!! ) For myself, I've never been a good traveller even before the UC - you know.. silly things like changes in food, water and of course toilet territory! (grin)... though was prepared with my suitcase of laxido which my specalist gave me!

I would never need a laxative. All I have is diarrhea all the time.

This is what I thought but when I had an X-ray they found that I was really contispated which was making the UC worse.

Hi Donna... it's hard to say as it seems everyone is different.  Stress definitely can trigger it and I know I have to pull myself back... and some symptoms - like the trots with or without blood are the same yet causes can be different... It was an xray that pinned down the fact that I could go 15-20 times a day with blood but was still horribly consitpated. My hubby used to time between mouth to butt!  Even admitted to hospital on steriods into my system and laxido (as the starter), I was still bleeding and sometimes it was clots. It was only when I was given two doses over two days of picolax did the bleeding and trots stop.. full stop!  I call that stuff now pixie dust!

It may be worth talking to your GP or specialist about an Xray just to rule that you are not also constipated out.

With the stress... totally understand as we went through the same as with your MIL. She was suspicious and we couldn't get into a home as she was having none of it and she lived an hour away - driving up at all times of night and.... - then readying her house for sale - all at the beginning of my colitis symptoms and just after the food posioning that started it all... we even just had a holiday and I was still having to work as I work on my own and that caused the burn where I knew I was getting quite stressed out and spent a couple of days clutching my belly.  I do try and have a bit of me time now.. a pamper here and there - even if it's just in a nice warm bath where for that first year, I didn't get any rest at all and I have had good support from my wonderful hubby.

I do hope that your symptoms get under control again but I do suggest having a chat to your specialist or GP if you can't see your specialist right away about everything so that they may be able to get your flare under control.
