I have had an itchy patch on my vulva for over a year, now it's gettng worse.

i thought it had something to do with having the mirena coil fitted, which was fitted in 2011. I have had this problem for over a year. It was bearable at first but has been getting worse over the last few months. I'd been treating it as thrush as that's what I thought it was but it doesn't respond to thrush treatment. Now it is much worse and becoming sore and a little swollen. I've tried using vagisil cream, but it only soothes temporarily. Does anyone know what could be and how it can be treated?

    it sounds very much like lichen sclerosus....do you have any white patches as well?

    hop over to the LS site and compare notes whilst you apply to see your GP  for a referral if they don't recognise the condition. dermatologists here in uk specialise but otherwise a gynae may confirm for you whether or not its LS.

      Thanks for your reply. No,not here are no white patches, it's only pink from itching.

    If you use any scented feminine hygiene products they could make it worse

      thanks, I've been prone to thrush since I was in my late teens so don't use scented products in that area, don't even use bubble bath on the rare occasion I have a bath. I'm coming back as a man!
