I have had blepharitis now for 3 years. It first manifested itself as what seemed to be a bad case of conjunctivitis during a family holiday, but persisted. Sadly, my local hospital eye clinic simply diagnosed 'dry eye' and sent me away. Only my own persistance via my GP got me an appointment at another hospital two years later. They immediately diagnosed blepharitis, but can only give me the usual treatment suggestions. Why is it that treatment doesnt seem to have advanced in many years? I also suffer from chronic eczema and psoriasis and these seem to make my condition worse. Has anyone heard of any alternative treatments?

you have aked for alternative treatments

I also like many other people get blepharitis please try.

make up 1 level tablespoon of bicarbonate of soda

    1 pint of boiling water

when cool pour a little into another bowl and using a cotton bud clean around the eye and eyelids. Store remaining mixture in the fridge and repeat twice a day.

I too have just been diagnosed with Blepharitis after several months of treatment for a dry eye condition only. The dry eye condiditon seemed to get worse and worse, but now with the warm flannel, bicarb treatment it seems a little better. But I agree with you - why is there no other treatment and why has it happened to me???

I find it very distressing and takes over my mind totally during the day. (how are my eyes feeling? should I put more drops in? etc)

Do you know of any self help group at all?

    best wishes

    Carolyn

The bi-carb routine does seem to help. I personally would say it is more helpful than the baby shampoo which I found really difficult to do because I am extremely short-sighted and kept poking myself in the eye!!!! The bi-carb eases the discomfort to a degree but wouldn't it be wonderful if someone found a real, lasting cure. At the moment I am trying Colloidal Silver. Do a google if you don't know what that is. I'm spraying a small amount onto a cotton wool pad and wiping over the outside of my lashes (eyes closed). I'm trying to pluck up the courage to use it on cotton buds and clean base of lashed with eyes open but, again, my short-sightedness is a problem here. I'll report back if this stuff is really beneficial. Only been using it two days so it far too early to comment yet.
