I have had severely painful headaches (from which I do not usually suffer)which no pain relief could shift. This occurs within 2 hours of taking the medication and starts with a pulsating feeeling in the ears which builds into a pulsating headache starting from the lower neck and hooking over the top of the head like a pitch-fork. Laying down makes it worse and harder to bear. I experience feelings of uncontrollable rage and feelings like I could explode both physically and emotionally at any moment within 3 hours of taking the medication - I have never suffered with PMT in the past and these feelings are totally uncontrollable and alien to me. Bloating within 1 hour. Weight gain of 6 lb in 2 days.I am taking this drug to stop severe post menopausal bleeding. These side effects are unbearable and unacceptable and have a catastrophic effect on familiy and loved ones. This has resulted in me progressively reducing the medication - at the risk of increased bleeding. The reduction seems to have worked for the time being, but even by reducing the medication, these symptoms seem to build up over time, and I may have to stop taking them completely. Thankfully I shouldn't be on these tablets long term - I wouldn't want to be taking them for any length of time.

I am due to pick up my prescription today and I have already been given this option before, which after viewing info on the net, had decided I didn't want to go this route. Unfortunately, my doctor gave me three options, one I dismissed completely, and the only route he will allow is tablets first then a uterus balloon!?!?! BUT, I have to try the tablets first. I am really, really nervous about taking them. I have suffered nasty, heavy periods since I first started when I was fourteen (31 years ago)and have had varying strengths of PMT from midly annoyed to psyco through the years. After reading your information and others on this site, I am already stressed out thinking about what these tablets are going to do to me. Lets hope I turn out to be the exception to the rule and they have no effect other than to increase my bust size, make me drop a stone and look like Halle Berry - But I won't hold out too many hopes for that.

    HI

I have been prescribed this medication for severe menopausal symptoms but am refusing to take it. I was prescribed it once before to stop a menstrual cycle whilst on holiday. From the first day of taking until the last I was totally deaf, which I later found out to be a life threatening problem. I do hope you aren't experiencing deafness.

I have been suffering with heavy painful periods for the past 5 years. My doctor has prescribed norethisterone , but after reading the side effects , i am very wary of actually starting the medication. Over the past 2 years my weight for some reason has rocketed by 2 stone, although i am a very healthy eater and donot eat anything i shoulnt. My gp says this is because of my hormones, but one of the side effects of this medication is weight gain, which i cannot accept as i do not want to get any bigger, i want to lose weight. I would be very interested to know if any of the women on this medication put on weight or is it just a myth:headhurts:

I have been prescribed this medication as i have had severe bleeding for a few months now after having an operation. I have been experiencing a compressing pain in my chest and have experienced a repettative dull pain in the back of my head which painkillers do not rectify. If this does persist i will consult my doctor, although my doctor didnt make me aware that i would have these symptoms. On comment 3 it is mentioned that weight gain is an affect, i would like to comment that i have had the reverse - Weight loss, since on this medication.
