I have had strange sensations in my chest. Has anyone else had it?

Since January this year, on and off, I have had this strange feeling in my chest. It consists of this breathless feeling in my chest, which when i breathe out, i can hear this slight whistling noise. This is worse when i lie down at night in bed. Occasionally I hear it when i breathe in too. Then, about 15-20 minutes later, give or take, i get this terrible indigestion, which makes me belch violently, and when i belch, i get this unpleasant taste, coming from my stomach. I also get occasional heartburn, usually only slightly in the morning when i wake up, but one time it was so bad i had this stabbing pain in my chest. I also have gone on through a phase where i get this tight feeling in my throat when i lie down in bed, which has caused problems sleeping. I also have had pains in the neck, which i think is caused by sleeping tense.

I also want to point out that I have also been suffering from anxiety this year. I have been looking up anxiety, and a lot of these symptoms can be caused by this. The symptoms seem to be worse when i am anxious about something. The anxiety stemmed from worrying i had cancer earlier this year, though I don't think i have. I have also been worried about my mother, who is suffering from extreme stress over her job, my cat, who had cancer, and the coronavirus, which is the current trigger.

I have wondered whether I'm suffering from GERD as a result of the anxiety, as this seems to fit the symptoms. I also considered asthma.

If i think of anymore symptoms I've had I'll add them in.

Has anyone else had symptoms like these? Or does anyone have any idea what this could be?

I am not qualified to diagnose, but anxiety and acid reflux can cause a lot of discomfort. This coronavirus is making me freak out too. Try some deep breathing and relaxation excercises.

Hi Jade, It sounds like you are having reflux but, there are a few things you said that you can ask your Dr about...laying down it can allow the stomach acid to come up your oesophagus,(causing tightness, burning, sore throat, hoarseness & etc...) the wheezing(esp. when laying down or when you have anxiety & stomach acid increases) can be mild aspiration of stomach acid into places it doesn't belong, ...try sleeping with your upper body propped up(make a ramp with pillows etc..) at least so your head is 6in or more elevated,(head above your heart) keep your neck aligned to avoid kinked neck....if after a week or so it helps, you can have an idea what's going on, then let your Dr know, also ASAP, there are acid reducers like H2 blockers(neutralizes acid), PPI(proton pump inhibitors)suppresses acid being made, there are low dose versions OTC and things like Tums & etc.. but you should ALWAYS ask your DR before starting ANY medication, as some are only for temporary use and for dosage instructions!! I am so sorry about your cat, hopefully your Mom will be okay once things get back to normal, you need to try and relax, you can't control some things & you shouldn't try but, maybe you could benefit from counselling, at least while there's so much stress in your life at this moment...if you can get your current symptoms under control it will really help, its hard to deal, when you're in pain and have medical issues, also knowing what's wrong gives you piece of mind...BEST WISHES💒🎶🐾🌈🍀☮♾

I was diagnosed with GERD back in 2001 and for the last couple of years or so I've it under control. But now, I'm also having the same symptoms you're describing. Tight chest, wheezing, discomfort in my stomach, burning in my throat, bloating, and a perpetually congested nose that won't clear up no matter what. I've also had asthma since I was a kit, so it gets really confusing sometimes to differentiate between symptoms caused by acid reflux vs. those caused asthma. And with this pandemic, my anxiety and stress levels are at an all-time high... which in turn, triggers more acid reflux symptoms and then it turns into a chicken and egg situation, doesn't it? So yeah, I can totally relate to what you're feeling right now and I bet there are TONS of us out there going through the same thing. To help myself de-stress a bit, I've been doing these 10-minute yoga sessions that I've found on youtube. I'm also trying to eat small portions of meals that are as bland as possible until my esophagus cools down. And I take Mylanta here and there as needed, as well as star anise tea. I don't take acid reflux meds anymore. Hang in there, we'll get through this.
