Hello,

I am only 18 and started suffering from UTI's from the age of 15. They have devloped to be a lot more painful and aggressive the last year. Only a month ago I was hospitalised with a kidney infection from a nasty UTI. ( I started bleeding when I was going to the toilet and was screaming in pain everytime I had to urinate). I have been tested for everything you can name, but they cant tell me whats wrong. I live in pain every 1-2 weeks. I will feel fine one morning to be hit with horrendous pain and discomfort only 30 mins-1 hour later. It is affecting my job because they are always hitting me when im supposed to be working, so I have to go home sick because I'm in so much pain and cant bear to walk, and only get temporary relief sitting on the toilet pushing out dribbles of urine. I take cranberry tablets, hyprex and I have an antibiotic called Curam Duo Forte which helps me when it first comes and it will take away the pain but they always reoccur a week or two later. Doctors cant help me so now I'm crying out for help from other people who suffer with what I do. Please help me, I want to get back to normal and live a happy pain free life sad

You sound as if you are much worse than I ever was.

I saw a scientific program on TV that found out that a ,ot of recurring UTI's were caused by eating chicken which are fed growthhormones and antibiotics. From then on I only ate free range or organic chicken. I also startedtaking a probiotic with cranberry every morning. UTi's gone! This was about a year ago but late,y I started eating the cheaper chicken. UTI back but Hyprex andback to organic chicken, hopefully, will fix it soon.

It may not work for you but it is easy to give it a try.

Thankyou so much for your reply!

I do eat quite a bit of chicken, I will give it a go and start eating free range or organic. I'll keep up with my cranberry tablets and hopefully I will see a change.

      Thanks again!

Hello. When you say you've been tested for everything was that under the care of a consultant urologist?

      Hello,

I have been tested by 2 different doctors, had blood tests, urines tests, and been inspected by a urologist specialist at the hospital. They said all they can do for me is take another ultrasound and inspect my kidneys and  they gave me antibiotics and said to keep up with my hyprex and cranberry. I'm going to go to another consultant urologist and hopefully have some luck there.

I hope you do get more answers from another urologist. Good luck.

The antibiotics are probably making things worse. They will destroy all the good bacteria in your gut which is very important in our immune system. If you have taken any fluoroquinolone antibiotic you risk delayed side effects like tendon pain. FQ's also bring on interstitial cystitis in some people. You need to restore your gut bacteria. If you are in a sexual relationship you need to look at minimising any risks there. If you wear tights you need to stop and change to stockings. Cotton panties only.

My antibiotic is listed as 'combination therapy amoxycillin 875mg/clavulanic acid 125 mg tablets', does that come under that category?

I am sexually active but we take precautions and i make sure I urinate and shower after. I dont wear tights and yes cotton panties always. smile

No - that is not a fluoroquinolone. Even so it will knock out your good bacteria. Showering before sex is more important as any e coli from the bowel that could be hanging around (I read somewhere that even passing wind can expel them from the bowel) need to be eliminated as sex can help push them into the urethra. It is imperative to urinate within 10 minutes as these buggers reproduce every 12 minutes.
