I have Herpes Type 1, but on genitals?

Posted , 5 users are following.

Just spoke to the nurse and I have officially been diagnosed with Herpes Type 1 - on the genitals?!?

I posted before, but now the type has been confirmed, I was expecting Type 2...

What does this actually mean? The nurse said it's likely for me to have another outbreak in about 12-18 months but what are your experiences?

Just confused, but I think I obtained it through oral sex last week. On the bright side, lots of my lesions have cleared and I am recovering from my first outbreak!

Hey there, i have type 1 in my genitals too. Up until i was diagnosed in january this year i thought if you had herpes in down there it was type 2 and that you could only get type 1 around the mouth. So i was like you expecting to have type 2. What the hurse told me when they called to say i had type 1, she sounded almost enthusiastic if that males sense...like to say that it was only type 1

The type one virus's site of prefernce is around the mouth. Not the genitals. So what the nurse told me is since its type 1 it doesnt usually outbreak down there because "it doesnt like being down there". Its also less contagiouse. People with type one also dont shed the virus as much. I read in an article that of those with type 1 only %25 will shed the virus when not having an outbreak.

Anyways thats some of the few things ive learned this past month since contracting the virus.

I have the same thing. Haven't had an outbreak since my first one. You're right that it's almost preferable having genital hsv1 than a coldsore since it sheds less and outbreaks are less frequent. Plus when you're disclosing to partners you can just tell them you have coldsores since it is the exact same virus! Fingers crossed you won't get an ob for a long time. With good diet and plenty of water hsv1 is very easy to manage!

    Thank you!

I'm hoping you're right, it would make life much easier but who knows!

    Hi Victoria,

I was recently diagnosed this week. Did you end up getting another outbreak a year later? What has your experience been this year with your partner. I'm still on outbreak, and am married, I can't imagine having sex again.
