    Hi Lorraine02,

Most people don't get benefits from sertraline for about 4-6 weeks until it reaches full theraputic levels in your body. I may be wrong but you may feeling better from the placebo effect. Most people will have side effects such as increases anxiety, loss of appetite, insomnia and nausea for the first couple of weeks. And normally you will also have slight side effects when you have a dosage increase.

But you could be a lucky one and receive amazing results right away! Stay strong and positive. If things do take a turn and you feel your anxiety come back don't get discouraged and stop taking the medication. In most cases it'll get worse before it gets better. Be patient! Once again it can and will take 4-6 weeks for everything to even out.

Thankyou, it's jst all new to me although I have suffered stress anxiety fir more thn 20years I thought to myself enough is enough, I was terrified of taking antidepressants, but anything surely can b better thn the turmoil in my head

My sister has told me that if you suddenly feel 'rough' then that is par for the course and it WILL pass. You have to go with it. If like me you have decided that you have most of the side effect symptoms already before you even started the tablets then what's different? 20 years is a hell of a time. I've been heading down this road for only about 3.

When I complete I'm going to persue a natural supplement for Seratonin and associated elemnts through diet.

Twenty years was a prison sentence in my head, I didn't want to b labelled for being not right in the head for having a mental illness, I shall keep at this n hope n pray fir some normality

As Chuck says it can/does take at least two weeks to 'really take affect. However I have taken my first tablet today and feel better alreadyeek but I suspect that when the chemicals get established I shall feel some effects.

However, wouldn't it be lovely if you were one that benefitted immediately. That would be a result after those years or worry.

Your anxiety about death is horrible and I fully sympathise as Health Anxiety is one of the worst there is.

Been there (health Anxiety) for 7 or 8 years at differing levels. I even have it by proxy i.e. someone else gets ill then I go over the edge, even people I have no relationship to (e.g. some sort of TV star....sad isn't it?)

My GAD revolves around death of loved ones an myself an health. Funny though, i chose the health field back in 1994 as my career! Lol! Iv had fear of death since a child an would cry myself to sleep thinking of when my parent's die! That's wacked out! Then we have lost a daughter in 2000 so that REALLY ramped things up an I got hooked on Tramadol which by the way increases Seratonin an norepinephrine like an antidepressant but used for pain. Not as strong as Tylenol with Codiene. But started it due to injury to leg an kept taking it. It relieved the anxiety an gave me energy. Not high. 8 yrs took it. By that time it was bad. 15 a day. Went to detox off for 5 days an ever since not right in the noggin. Then menopause at 46! Uggg...so rt now Im on med #8 Effexor 37.5mg. Wk 5. Body pain here an there. I tried Sertraline. It was fantastic mentally after 5 wks. Then physically not so much. Went toxic in me. Liver enzymes went up an joint pain an anorexia an diarrhea all time. But took for 2 an half mnths. Just couldn't take physical symptoms an had to stop. Iv tried them all an prob with all. If body pain keeps up may stop Effexor. I have fibromyalgia an lower lumbar herniated disc an severe golfers elbow. But I hurt all over worse than before started it. I may stop an do a dna test that finds out which Anti-depressant would fit better an find out if I metabolise folic acid which turns to L-methylfolate in brain which increases chemicals an helps depression. So we will see. Im glad Sertraline is helping you. It is aweful to think like we do, i mean for us. Gloom an doom my husband says. My parent's were worrier's also. Goodluck!

Top statement Tim. Just to add that I beleive there is a little more recognition for mental iIlneness conditions such as Anxiety, but sadly not from the Government seemingly when it comes to investment in services. I believe this has a lot to do with the poor sods that have PTSD, especially following conflict or horror events.sad

Totally agree, government just doesn't pay enough attention to this need, it's number 1 illness of many vets, but yet largely ignored.

Hi Lorraine, wow – you’ve increased your dose very quickly and if these are only the side effects that you are suffering from, you should be thankful. I remember when I started this drug the very first time about 2 decades ago, it was a nightmare. Come to think of it, it’s always a nightmare at first when I get back on it. My side effects are intense, random, and new – got the shakes, the runs, the tingling, the sweating, the vomiting, etc.

My advice is to stick with this med. It will help you but you have to give it up to 2 months to see the beginning of the light at the end of the tunnel. Hang in there. It will get better.

Has anyone had constipation as a side effect of zoloft....Going in week 2 and Im concerned its causing this, otherwise I think I have a blockage!! Help!!
    • Posted

Yep, I did. For years. Whenever I am well, after being on the med for awhile I have constipation. Stool softener and bananas work for me. Fiber. Lots of water. More fiber.

I had opposite of your problem. But prunes will help. Not many . You could have severe gas an pain in bowel. Or you may not be hydrating enough. Drink more filtered water to. Probiotic to, like Align or BioGyya (spelling might be wrong. An Im n US. You may not have these in UK). Prunes, I would start with 1 or 2 a day for wk. Then see. Pepto Bismol is bad stuff. It turns stools black. Also moving around like exercises. Banana's are constipating where I come from. I'd stay away fr them. If these don't help, see a G.I. Dr. Or get stool softner.
