I have just been told I have an eye freckle and I am now worried

Optician has told me I have an eye freckle and need a check up in twelve months... I am sick with worry that it is cancerous and don't know whether to seek a second opinion as opticians are not experts

Hi Linda.  Why dont you get your doctor to arrange an appointment with an opthalmologist to put your mind at ease.  Most eye freckles are not cancerous but ,like all freckles ,need monitoring on a yearly basis to make sure there are no changes.

Yes Isabel I am going to my doctors this week I am a positive person but unless this thing disappears I am forever going to feel like I have a ticking time bomb in my eye .... I find it really unsettling I suppose it is the less you know the better.... Doesn't help the fact that I have read up on the treatment and frightened the life out if myself ....  Who would have thought a simple eye test could change your life :.(

    Hi linda51134

You have nothing to worry about the eye freckle otherwise known as a nevus is a type of spot and each appointment that you have photos will be taken to see if there are any changes that will affect your vision in any way. If there is a risk, then at the last resort surgery would come into play. There has been reports that the eye freckle can be cancerous, but it is just a small percentage.

If surgery is the option, then it doesn't take long and then think back at the speed of recovery.

I am sort if positive but scared ... Think it is more to the fact that I have been lucky enough in my 57 years to have been illness free and feel maybe that is over .... Am sure I will be fine once I have spoken to my gap just on a wobble but thank you for reassurance
