I have lots of consultants but they don't seem to talk to each other

Hello

Is there such a thing as a lead consultant for patients, I have about 5 different consultants for different issues that have been caused my an underlying autoimmune condition. Unfortunately they don't seem to talk to each, this can be a simple as having the same test / scan done twice to medications being changed without consulting with each-other.

The major one that have now come up with now is I am having undiagnosed black outs, nobody know what is causing it but it could be nero, respiratory or rheumatology. I have already spent 53 weeks in hospital in the last 4 years and don't want to go back again. Surly it would be easier if one person took control rather than me chasing them all individually.

Any help you be much appreciated!

    Hello,

It sounds like you need an internist. This is a doctor who specializes in treating multiple diseases at the same time and coordinates care between specialists. I'm not sure what country you're in, but I had a similar issue in that my doctor had sent me to see a bunch of different specialists to diagnose me. Finally she referred me to an internist in the local hospital. Finally, I feel like I have managed care. He has done more for me in 6 months than all the specialists in the previous 8 years. He also was the one to diagnose me and will be performing the surgery. Depending on where you are, there might be a different process to be referred or transferred to the care of an internist, but check with your family doctor, your Extended Health Care plan or perhaps a local health authority? I feel like specialists are puzzle pieces, but an internist is the whole picture.
