I have Oral Lichen Planus and just heard about Gengigel

Has anyone with OLP used Gengigel and did it work.  I found using baking soda to brush my teeth is much better than any toothpaste.  I just can't find anything to help relieve some of the pain on my tongue.  It feels like it has been sliced with a razor blade all the time.  Any help you can give me is welcome.

I have found coconut oil to be soothing for the tongue and also making a mouthwash with marshmallow root, Teaspoon of marshmallow root steeped in 250ml boiling water, leave until cool. Strain and use as a mouth rinse after teeth cleaning. Marshmallow is very soothing to the mucous membranes.

Sorry I know nothing about Gengigel.

Hi to all on board,  Just found this discussion and thought I'd join.

One thing I have found that helps my OLP, (diagnosed Nov.'16) is......

1.......if I have a spot or two that is really bothering me, I use Myrrh Essential Oil.  I use a Q-tip to dry the area and then I put a drop of Myrrh Oil on another Q-tip and dab it on the area.  You don't need a lot.  The taste is awful but within 24 hours, there is a marked difference.  I don't use just any EO.  Make sure you buy a very good brand.  I usually dab about 4 times during that 24 hour period.  Myrrh is a great anti-inflammatory.

2......I've noticed also ...the texture of different foods make a world of difference.  It's a bummer, I know, but try softer things for a few days.

3......Also,  I noticed if I eat (I'm gluten free) cookies made with Almond Flour (which I've been able to do in the past) it makes my tongue swell underneath one side and burn for 2-3 days.  So aggravating!!!

I hope this helps someone.  I could go on and on but I'll break for now smile

      Hi, Knithappy,

      Thank you.

      I'll try that.

I've wondered if almonds cause flares???

It's interesting you mentioned almond flour.

      Praying you are pain free.

For me, every time I try to eat almond cookies (which has been on 4 or 5 different occasions) my tongue will swell and burn on one side and last for several days.  So for now, I leave them alone.

Thank you for your prayers.  I am mostly pain free.  The dentist said I have a mild case....that he had seen much worse.  I can't imagine much worse.  It is so annoying like it is!

Hi, I looked for myrrh online.  It is pretty expensive.

I found a toothpaste and mouthwash that contain myrrh.

I can order online from Walmart.

They arent Walmart products.  They are just sold through Walmart.

      Getting some payday.

A little more expensive than what i usually use, but worth a try.

      Thanks for the tip.

I've had OLP for over 30 years.  I was lucky enough to have a dentist refer me to the University of MN to see a specialist.  At the U, I saw a dentist/professer.  The first visit I was told it is an autoimmune disease.  Just like any autoimmune disease, they do not know what brings it on.  I have multiple other autoimmune conditions (Rhuematoid Arthritis, Thyroid Disease, Vitaligo, Raynaud's) & have been told it is not uncommon if you have one, you can develop others.  The only toothpaste I can recommend is children's toothpast and it cannot have any mint flavor.   If you can, get a referral to your nearest University Dental School.  Over the years, I have been given 4 prescriptions.  Two are to use everyday and 2 are when I have breakouts.  When I follow that regiment, my sores stay under control.  My problem is the specialist retired & my dentist retired. My mouth is the worst it has been.  Next week, I am going to ask my doctor if he will prescribe the meds.  One thing I STRONGLY recommend to everyone is take care of your mouth the best you can.  When my mouth hurt a lot, I didn't brush so well.  After all these years, I am now losing my teeth.  My Periodontist says it is because of the OLP for so many years.  One last thing, has anyone tried rinsing with Aloe Vera?  I read that could help.  I bought some at Walmart & tried it last night.

Dear Sharon, I pray you are getting relief from your pain.

Thanks for the tip about toothpaste.

I went to an ENT who suggested I go to the state dental university.

Right now, I am doing really well compared to where I was a month ago, pain wise.

Please share the name of your Rx meds. That would be greatly appreciated.

You don't have to recommend them or make any claims as to their efficacy.

      Thank you.

I was diagnosed with OLP about 20 years ago.  I decocted 3 herbs:  calendula, myhrr and licorice.  I kept the decoction in the fridge and rinsed with it.  It cleared the OLP and it never returned until about 2 months ago and it is the worst outbreak I've ever experienced.  I'm working with a homeopathic clinic to try to cure the root cause but this is really bumming me out.  The lesions have spread all over my mouth and under my tongue.  Eating is a form of torture.  I will see the oral disease specialist on august 15th if it's not healed by then.  I'm so glad I found this site as I was feeling soooooo alone with this  challenge!

I have not heard of Gemgigeh, but may have something that has helped my severe mouth pain. It is Emuaid. It is a cream you put on the sores to relieve the pain. I got my first box from the compant and the second from Amazom. It works very well  to ease the pain. I use mine when I need to ease the pain.  It works well.

    Dear Mercky,

I just got on this site and saw your note. I have found an ointment or cream that may help the pain in your mouth. I use it and it will stop the pain. It is Emuaid. You can get it from the company or from Amazon. It works well to stop that terrible pain.

You may want to try it. Mary

    Hi,

My Father currently had a dentist check up and was told he may have OLP and is now on a waiting list for a biopsy. i am slightly confused because he has no lesions or white patches in his mouth, however he does have sore gums at the back of his mouth. i think my overall question is will this lead to oral cancer? he had several blood tests over the last few years and everything was negative so sign of Hep C or any other causes.
