I have pws. It is all over my left leg and half of my butt. It mostly came from my leg being wrapped around the umbilical cord. I am lucky to not have it on my face but I am still very self consious about it. Most people who see it don't even know what it is and look at it like my leg is messed up. Hopefully laser surgery can do the trick even though I am almost seventeen years old. I am glad to have found this site because it lets me know of the risks and statistics, etc.

I also have a pws on my left leg, I am 15 years old and have had laser treatments in the past but i decided to stop treatments. At this time I didn't understand the later risks of darkening and thickening. I am hoping to start laser treatment again as my birthmark is still very dark. I want to thank this website for helping me understand.

My Son will be 3 in November and he has a PORTWINE STAIN on his (left) leg,buttocks,foot&3toes,and a spot on his penis and scrotum. He will have his 8th lazer surgery on Augest 29th.This is still EXTREMELY diificult for me.My Son has to be put under anesthesia due to his age and the pain from the lazer treatment. His left leg with the PORTWINE STAIN WAS smaller than the right. He has seen the BONE SPECIALIST 3 times and the x-rays show only a .5cm difference in length. Also, his LEFT butt cheek is smaller(this IS noticable)My Son's leg is now the same size as the right but his LEFT butt cheek does not seen to have caught up yet.The Doctors do not know why this is.I would love to talk with other parent's who have a baby with a PORTWINE STAIN on the LEG.Any emotional support would be nice,too.-from issues on what you do to protect the LEG from sun, owies, burns, scrapes, after treatment to people's rude staring.I would love to share also.Thank You, AMY

I am 32 and have a PWS on my right butt cheek and at the bottom part of my right leg. I am extremely self conscious about it and never go swimming or wear skirts. I always thought I would learn to live with it as I got older but it bothers me more than ever. I have tried numerous laser treatments but they have had little effect. My doctor told me that as the PWS is not on my face, I do not qualify for NHS treatment. At £150 a session and needing approx 40 sessions, I simply cannot afford to go private. I sympathise with anyone who has a PWS and if anyone knows of any advancements in laser treatment, it would be much appreciated, Mel

Hi! My son was born with a port wine stain on his left leg, foot, buttocks and part of his penis. We started to have it lasered and it was very tramatic for us as well as him. We stopped the process as it was too hard for us and him. Are you having any problems with your PWS? He is now 10 years old and I don't know if I should being up how he feels about it? As a teenager I was wondering how you feel.

    Thank you for sharing!
