Hi Raymond,  My gleson score is 3/4 and my PSA is a 7 maybe high because of the infection. I was diagnosised 6 years ago.

I have suffered on and off with prostatitis for 20 years. My PSA has climbed to over 7 and I am using active surveillance as I do not fancy any of the treatment options. I do not know my Gleason as I do not want a biopsy. You do not mention your age which can be relevant to any treatment option you may have. I have found that non-dairy certainly helps. Prostatitis can be very debilitating and is a devil to get rid of but I find Total Candida defence helps (available from Amazon) even though prostatitis is usually a bacterial infection. Hope this helps and I wish you well.

I am doing active surveillance at the moment but will consider other options if my PSA goes over 10. 10 used to be the cut-off for action but guidelines have moved it down over the years. Obviously this means many more unnecessary biopsies. Some doctors do not take any action until PSA is over 12. Remember, PSA is PROSTATE specific antigen, not Cancer specific antigen so prostatitis will definitely increase the PSA reading. My choice to defer invasive intervention is based solely on the fact that I have yet to see any evidence that intervention improves longevity and will definitely impair quality of life. I would advise cutting down on dairy and red meat and taking Total Candida defence together with Saw Palmetto (there is no scientific evidence that SP works but I take it anyway). I would read 'How to avoid the overdiagnosis and overtreatment of prostate cancer' by Dr Horan or Invasion of the prostate snatchers' (can't remember the author). If I were 66 I don't think I would consider invasive treatment (I am 56). I wish you the very best.

Hello, my husband has just had treatment for his prostate cancer (he is 57 psa 4.9 gleason 3+3) I did a lot of research before the treatment and he had brachytherapy, there is a prostate uk community forum, I joined and you can click on real people's stories, they all do a profile with all their treatment, I found this all very interesting to read, but was shocked at some that have low psa around 6 or 7 and the cancer has spread to the bones and uncurable. These are all real people with real stories, not statistics. Which made our decision to have treatment now much easier. You may find it useful to look on the same site. I even saw a chap on there with a gleason of 3+4 but psa was only 0.7 so he has been advised not to watch and wait as the psa is so low.

I just thought you might find this useful. As for my husband, he mainly felt he had to have treatment because I am a lot younger than him and we have 3 young children. He is a farmer and returned to work 2 days after treatment, one week later he is out all day working as usual, bladder symptoms are the worst so far, getting up 6 times last night, but if the treatment works then it is a small price to pay. Things seem ok "in the trouser" department too, though not allowed to use it for 2 weeks as a seed can be shifted out the cavity, I know it can take up to years for all the damage to blood vessels to show, but hoping all will be fine, so the treatment isn't too bad, though he would have refused to have his prostate removed unless it was life or death.

Hi Mary there is alot of things that can make your PSA go up, if you have sex or you are constipated the day before you go for your Psa test all these things you can find out from youtube cos your doctor will not tell you they are just frightened they will be out of work..HaHa    good hunting Mary keep in touch

Hi Mary It took me 4-5 weeks to get over the biopsy, I was screaming when I went for a pee so that kind of made my mind up that I was not going to do anything at the end of the day it is quality of life. the biopsy nearly killed me so I certianly will not be rushing to let them get their hands on me again. I am trying baking soda and molasses once per day because I think it is a fungi and baking soda kills fungi or cancer, and once a day I take colloidal silver 16 to 20  parts per million check it out on youtube and tell me what you think    good luck mary   sad

Hi Raymond, I have to say I have never heard of such a reaction to a biopsy. I am so sorry.

      Hi Raymond,

Your agony when peeing sounds very like my agony when peeing. The solution for me is a catheter. In my case the problem was caused by radiotherapy. Did you get any explanation as the the mechanics of agony when peeing? I have not.

My GP rang urology and was told it would be the bladder spasming. I am not convinced. Besides it is a presumption not a diagnosis as I have not been questioned on the matter.. My bladder is tender when palpated. The sphincter is comfortable to touch as the catheter being pushed in and pulled out causes no pain. But when before the catheter I relaxed intending to pee or managed a weak flow the agony provoked loud moans and groans. The few times I managed a strongish flow the pain reduced. Are there any similarities?

Hi George yes it sounds very similar very painfull when trying to pee with lots of black blood, and I had blood poisoning drifting in and out of consciousness I thought I was going to die my consultant was no help to me at all, this is why I am trying other things first before I go under the knife. I am with another consultant now at the walsgrave I hope I get better treatment with him, at least he allows me to talk which is a big help and he explains things better..........god luck George its a sruggle

It's a struggle Raymond. I'lll say it is. The radiotherapy must do clean dammage. No black stuff. That sounds really horrendous. But the pain. I rate  tooth abcess as moaning and walking the floor. Can be controled with alternate paracetamol and co-codamol. That bladder pain - moaning and groaning, unable to avoid being embarassingly noisy. Uncontrolled with over the counter and first level precription pills. Is that about it?

I hope the surgery goes very much better than the biopsy, yes very, very much better. I wish you an excellant outcome too. George
